Model: Deco W7200
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

MODEL: WE10800

What do I need to do to my existing modem/router when setting up DECO as an Access Point?

I have one (the main Deco) connected to the modem/router via ethernet cord.  The others (3 more) are connected wirelessly.  I don't believe I can put the modem/router in bridge mode.

Do I need to turn off my modem/router's wifi?  I named the wifi on the Deco the SAME as the wifi on my router.  Will this cause an issue?

Any other steps I should be doing?

Thanks in advance for your help.

  @Vito895,

If you are aiming for access point mode, you do not really need to do anything.

Placing your modem/router in bridge mode is only required when you are looking to use Router Mode, as the Bridge Mode disables funtionality that would be handled by Decos in Router mode.

You can disable the Wi-Fi of your main router, that way you are only using your Deco's connections, but it is not required.

By naming the networks the same, your device should just see the Deco and original router's Wi-Fi as one - and connect to whichever will provide the best connection.

@Vito895 I ran my Deco XE75 in access-point mode for some time and it worked fine, which involved disabling wifi on my router (separate from the modem). If you have the option to set your modem/router to bridge mode, I'd personally suggest that -- I think it's simpler to have the Deco function in regular Wi-Fi Router mode and in control, which is what I eventually transitioned to and haven't looked back (and got rid of my other router).
