@Carl I'm new here but have plenty of the TP-Link Kasa products.  The value of these things are off the charts.  Way more reliable and less expensive than almost anything out there.  I use them with my Hubitat system and it works flawlessesly with a community driver (PLEASE NEVER DISABLE LOCAL ONLY CONTROL! I DON'T WANT TO RELY ON THE CLOUD).

I have been desperately wanting a 3-way version forever though.  You people who are getting so upset over a new product are kinda being babies.  It's a light switch.  In your residential establishment.  It works for the most part and it's not like it isn't eventually going to be fixed and improved like every other product.  How many firmware updates have you done in the past? Anyway, WHEN CAN I GET ONE?! It seems like people keep on saying they received one even past the date of the Amazon early release.  I'll gladly take any of your early release ones off of your hands if you are that upset about them! Will it be end of this month or what?

@AMDPower

Local control should always be available but Kasa is built around cloud control and that is how these devices communicate with assistants like, Alexa, Google and Smart Things.  For availability it is currently on hold while we wait for these critical issues to be resolved.  I hope it is within the month but I can't say with confidence right now. Once I can I'd be happy to let you and anyone else still waiting know.

@AMDPower,

That has got to be one of the most useless and ignorant posts on this forum.  If we just wanted a "light switch that works for the most part", we could go to Menards and buy a light switch for $1.95 that 100% works.  This "baby" bought three of these "light switches" for more than $150 that didn't work at all until a firmware release just days ago because of us babies.  Now it "works for the most part" but doesn't do almost anything that's smart.  I have spent many hours troubleshooting, contributing to this forum, and trying to help. Why don't you stop with the useless comments and name calling and try doing the same?

Okay thank you.  I will be honest I did not read that particular reply.  As @Solla-topee was already helping @Connu I kind of glazed over that post.  As I said in my response just after that post I was going to let Solla continue to work with him so the admins were not butting heads when working with and troubleshooting specific users.  Where I will admit we failed is that we did not then collaborate with each other about what was being reported.  This is why the additional concerns were being stated as being "new" to me and the local team.  I have emailed the engineers and now just waiting for a response.

@Carl

I appreciate your honesty and thank you for the reply.

@Connu

Return them and leave the forum then.  MY comment is ignorant?! That's rich.  You are constantly whining and complaining about a smart light smitch.  You paid $150 for a few of them.  Pennies compared to a commercial control product like Crestron, Lutron, etc.  It will be worked out.  Chill dude.

@Carl That's good to know about the local control.  Thank you.  That really opens the door for control system integration.  Also, I am a certified  AMX/Crestron and Extron programmer and have over 20 years of experience in audio/visual control.  if you guys ever need any extra beta testers, I'd be happy to help.

Also, @Connu  you may want to look at getting a hub as your go between for Kasa.  I've found the routines and Alexa in general to be somewhat unreliable.  I currently use Hubitat which has a user created driver to control Kasa.  You can then use the Alexa integration in Hubitat to perform anything else.  It supports many devices, Z-Wave, Zigbee and many IP driver devices.  While I'm certain you and I got off on the wrong foot, I do think it's a better solution than relying on Alexa's routines and you may find it of interest.

@AMDPower,

I'm a pretty chill guy, thanks. I own a mobile app development company and very well understand how difficult beta testing can be.  I'm passionate about this technology and the idea of a "smart" home in general.  That's why I have spent so many hours testing and working with @Carl and others here and took exception to you calling us "babies".  The actual cost of the switch is really not the issue. It's a steal compared to Lutron and others, but it still needs to function as a smart switch.  The issue is that the almost none of the "smart" features work and a hub or any other solution won't help until kasa's developers fix the firmware.  Period.  I'm not sure why anyone would purchase a smart switch that is nothing more than a switch that can sometimes be controlled through the kasa app and doesn't have any smart features.  Read through the forum to see how painful it's been.

The reason I'm willing to spend so much time on this is because I've spent 5 figures in the past outfitting a house with Lutron RadioRA switches (yes, the switches cost upwards of $300 each in some cases!).  I agree with you that kasa is a steal, especially compared to those systems.  I have installed around 4 or 5 dozen kasa smart dimmers in conjunction with Alexa (tried Google Home as well) in our newest house.  Alexa routines have been great and work perfectly although I would agree that the Alexa setup can be convoluted and painful at times.  Regardless, this combination has been flawless and saved me a ton of money compared to a Lutron RadiioRA2 solution.  Lutron is WAY ahead in the technology department (yes, they support 4-way installations and existing dumb 3-way switches for example), but kasa's $15 dimmers are so good for the price that it just doesn't matter to me.  However, they have to release a switch that doesn't have significant bugs.  That's why @Carl explained that they are postponing the release until the known bugs are fixed.

@Carl

Thanks and appreciative of the reply and this groups efforts.

Excited for the next gen of Kasa switches.

if there's a need of an extra able hand, I'm 1st in line to volunteer.  Will buy whatever for testing.

God speed to the group.
