Smart actions more than 3 active
I am adding smart switches to bathrooms and closets. I had planned on having them all on a timer to turn off after 30 minuites or so. I then found out you can only have 3 smart actions active. Is there a work around somebody has found for this?

@DEcosse Yes, I'm home local to them. See my other response. I think the firmware version depends on the hardware version as well. I'll have to see if I can find it, but I'm willing to guess that the firmware version I have is the highest for that hardware verison.

After looking at all my devices, I'm pretty sure the firmware is hard version specific. Some of mine had the same firmware as you, but were on a lower hardware version. This particular one that is on firmware version 1.0.2 is hardware version 3.0.
@danddc The HS220 I tested with the auto-off automation and is 1.08 firmware is only hardware version 2.0
My HS210 that has v1.1.5 is also v2.0 hardware
Both of those devices show the correct state in SmartThings

Can you guys comment on the situation regarding the Firmware Update issues that @danddc is seeing and why the App is not showing updates available for his devices?
I don't know whether the down rev firmware is what is preventing him seeing the Switch States in SmartThings, but it's certainly a question regardless, of why no updates are showing.

I had the same initial reaction when setting up Scenes and Smart Actions... but I figured it out.
Hope this helps someone else that is in disbelief that you can only have 3 actions for all of your switches
Its really a User Interface issue of the mobile app. Scenes and Smart Actions are not where you program your typical timer functions... these are for special scenarios you want to setup that you can turn on or off with the touch of a scene button.
You can automate every device on your network with a very complex schedule an unlimited events just by going to the Device tab in the app
Select the device you want to automate (eg Front Porch Light)
At the bottom of that screen, tap on Schedule
In the Schedule screen you can set as many events for that device as you want and it's actually even more flexible than Smart Actions (which are really for another purpose than general scheduling and timer functions)
* I was just about to remove all of my kasa switches and return them when I stumbled upon these features in the app. Not super intuitive because Scenes and Smart Actions are so easily noticed that the user thinks that is the place to do your automation... glad I found them. Note to KASA PO/Dev Team: better setup workflow introducing the device schedule features would have helped a bunch

Thank you for the information about Samsung SmartThings
l've moved all of my home automation (which isn't a huge amount, and so far incorporates only KASA hardware) to SmartThings .
The troubles I had with the KASA app are all resolved now with SmartThings
It takes just a bit to learn the SmartThings setup details, but now everything is working great . . . at no additional cost,.

@DEcosse So I finally got it to work! I tried it one more time today before I was going to return all my switches. Not surprisingly, it did not work. As a last ditch effort, I decided to unlink the devices from SmartThings (i'm pretty sure I tried this before as well, butr maybe not) and then re-add them. This time, I noticed something different. While the app was up and I would physically push on the switch, the status would change. I was shocked! I was pretty convinced it would work after that, so I setup the automation just as I did before and we had success. Thanks for you help and suggestions!

Each hardware product does have its own firmware. Though I am not personally aware of any firmware, regardless of hardware version that would limit the ability to use the products with Smart Things. Kasa is one of the few integration that should be fully compatible. I'd be happy to look into this more but I would need greater details to engage with the engineering team.
