Model: Archer A8
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: The Latest

My Macbook Pro takes a very long time to connect to my Archer A8 upon waking.

Sometimes it connects in Ad-Hoc mode.

This started happening when I changed my router from an Actiontec.

My other devices connect just fine.

Things I’ve tried:

•Deleted the hotspot and re-entered SSID+Password.

•Deleted Location and created a new Location.

•Deleted Network preferences, though I couldn't find one of them.

I have the latest firmware for the router, and the latest MacOS update available for my 2012 rMBP

My preferred network is a the top of the list.

Please help

Thanks

@Tette

My mid 2011 iMac takes about 5-15 seconds to connect to an Archer C8 which is located about 5 feet from the router.

How long does your PC take?

Are you using QoS, Firewall, Address Reservation, Parental Controls, or other special features in the router?

Just a thought, since the router is an AC router and your PC is not, change the WIFI to not include the AC option and see what happens. My thinking is the router is trying to establish an AC connection first, and tries a N connection.

@ArcherC8

Thanks for the response.

It takes 53 seconds to connect. It skips the 5G band and connects via 2.4 Ghz. I can then switch over to 5G fairly easily.

As far as QoS, Firewall, Address Reservation and Parental Controls go, I'm using the default. I think they're all off except for the SPI firewall feature.

I disabled the AC option and it didn't seem to make a difference.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

@Tette

Are the SSIDs the same?

What are your normal internet speeds as if they are very slow that could be an issue.

Other than that, nothing else I can think of that might cause the issue.

I agree 53 seconds is a bit long.

Be interesting if you had another Apple computer to compare the difference. That may isolate the issue to either the computer or to the router.

@Tette

What if you configure a static IP address for your Macbook?

The default IP that the Archer gives out is usually 192.168.0.x, and the DHCP usually starts at .100.

You could try setting your wireless adapter to:

IP: 192.168.0.250

Subnet: 255.255.255.0

Gateway: 192.168.0.1

DNS: 192.168.0.1

Unhiding the SSIDs solved the problem.

Thank you to the both of you.
