Model: Tapo C402 KIT Ā
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.21

If I turn on the vehicle detection mode and view the cameras live feed, the notification goes off for detecting my parked car. How can I fix this issue?

AI detections apply to detected motion only.  They would not detect anything not in motion.  For Live View indentifers you want to look at the option for Tag and turn it on. The icon looks like a person in the middle of a split square.

  @Carl what about with just the ad cards installed. I don't use the cloud storage or the membership

Detections are based on the settings not the storage location.  Regardless if you are using SD or Cloud the detection settings would be the same.

  @Sage_ I'm having the same issue, except it's not just with the live feed. If it detects my dog in the yard,it also tells me that my car is there, too. I've had the tags/labels on & the tags/labels off. That doesn't seem to make any difference, at all.

It reminds me of how one of my indoor Tapo cameras kept identifying my cat as a person. šŸ˜‚

It's not really a deal breaker, but it is rather annoying. In my case,it may have something to do with the fact that the Wi-Fi connection drops out on them quite frequently. I would get the H200 Hub to help, but the D130 doorbells aren't compatible with it.

Maybe buying an extra router or a couple boosters would solve the problem?

On my C425's any time vehicle detection is turned on it "detects" parked vehicles even though the only motion through the detection area is a person walking, an animal or any other type of non-vehicular motion.  The AI needs to be adjusted to differentiate between parked and moving vehicles.

  @Sage_

I have the exact same issue on the new C460 4K cameras too.

If vehicle detection is turned on it always flags up a vehicle detection event whenever there is any motion on the camera, or if you view live view, if a parked car is in the detection zone.

For reference my existing C420 2K cameras do not suffer this. It's only the C460s that have this issue.

No matter what sensitivity or if tags are on or off, it always records a video saying vehicle detected when the car is parked.

E.g.  my car is parked in front of my house, I have vehicle detection turned on, motion detection turned on and person detection turned on (default sensitivity 6), tags turned on, vehicle sensitivity set to 1.

My car is parked IN the active vehicle detection zone/area, it's not moving and simply parked up. If someone walks past my house (even if it's outside the person detection zone) the video will record and flag up a vehicle detection for the recording. Sometimes it just records the vehicle not moving with nothing seemingly activating it.

It seems vehicle detection isn't working correctly for these cameras (certainly not my two C460s as they both do this).

As mentioned my C420 has never had this problem and my parked car has never activated a video with vehicle detection sensitivity on default 6.

I guess there's some issues with the AI algorithm at the moment and vehicle detection simply isn't working properly.

I have to have vehicle detection turned off otherwise I'm just getting loads of false recordings.

And also exactly as you say, even if you just go to live view the camera it then starts to record a clip saying vehicle detection.

It obviously is detecting stationary vehicles as moving objects which is completely false and shouldn't happen. Parked cars should not be detected. Only moving vehicles should be detected. I guess the AI sensitivity is way too high and it cannot differentiate between parked cars and moving ones.

Would be great if this could be fixed as at the moment I cannot use vehicle detection.

  @Sage_ I have just installed TD21 and it is driving me insane. I have read all the instructions and googled posts yet my vehicle detection goes off all the time even when no vehicle has moved. I do not want to turn vehicle detection off as it partly defeats the object of having the cam. I have tried changing sensitivity, changing the area but has made no difference. SO FRUSTRATING

  @Sage_

D210 v1 same issue, even when set to 1 it detects a parked Car, had to set to off!

FW= 1.0.17

To be fair, Tapo could argue that it is detecting a car, just needs to be moving vehicle detection :)

Troubleshooting Tips -- Vehicle detection notification issue

Hello everyone,

Regarding the false detection issue, there are a few points that need to be confirmed before proceeding further.

1. Whether the vehicle detection was indeed falsely triggered — specifically, does the event type marked on the playback page correspond to the vehicle detection icon? It's important to note that different detection types have separate detection areas and sensitivity settings. If the detection area for motion detection is set to the whole screen, it will trigger the camera detection when a vehicle enters the camera's view, but this would activate the motion detection instead.

2. High detection sensitivity might lead to false detections. Consider lowering it. The default sensitivity is  6. If your current setting is at this level, try adjusting it to 4 or even lower, like 2.

If the situation persists, we recommend contacting the technical support for further assistance. You can send an email to support.usa@tp-link.com and include the following details.

1. Model, hardware, firmware version and the Mac address of the camera.

2. Detection settings: the detection types enabled and the specific settings for different detection types. *You can provide screenshots.

3. A video of the false detection and a screenshot of the playback page that includes this event -- being tagged with an incorrect event icon. *For better analysis results, we recommend providing at least two or three videos (along with corresponding screenshots of the playback page)

Troubleshooting Tips -- Vehicle detection notification issue

  @Wayne-TP

Thanks for the update.

To strip this problem down to the very basic minimum, this is what is happening.

I have always parked my car directly outside my house and had a C420 camera pointing directly out on the road where my car is parked. I've always had vehicle detection turned on (default sensitivity 6 I believe).

With those settings it has never flagged up a vehicle detection event for my parked car. It's only ever detected a moving vehicle if someone drives past.

However these C460 cameras seem to work differently.

They always ping up a vehicle detection event even for parked cars.

So if my car is parked and my C460 is "asleep" it's fine, obviously no movement so it's not awake and doesn't detect anything.

BUT if you "wake" the camera up even if you are simply live viewing it, it then flags a vehicle detection event for my parked (none moving) car.

So yes it's a vehicle but it's a stationary car. So basically every time the camera is woken up, he it by any means it's pinging a vehicle detection event.

Maybe this is how they are programmed now but I've never had that issue with my previous cameras

Are these programmed to detect stationary vehicles?

Obviously if nothing is moving the camera sleeps but the second ANY event happens and the camera wakes it pings a vehicle detection event

In my case people walk past my house but it's in an area outside of my zone, so it's waking my camera up. Obviously because it's outside of the zone the AI filters it BUT the very fact the camera has woken up mean it then detects my stationary parked car and it records with a vehicle detection event flagged up

I guess the basic question here is should a parked car be detected if it's in the detection zone? Even if it's not moving

Just by waking the camera always gives the detection even on sensitivity setting 1

So I either keep getting incorrect detection events and recording for my parked vehicle OR I turn off vehicle detection which is currently what I am having to do

As mentioned that was not the case with my C420 cameras which worked without this issue for over a year+

Thanks šŸ‘šŸ»
