Model: Tapo D225
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.19

I just installed the D225 doorbell, setting it up under my account. I have not been able to receive a single notification on my OnePlus 12 Android 15 phone. My wife is able to receive all the notifications on her Samsung Galaxy S21. I have full access to the doorbell in the Tapo app and can see, when tapping on the bell icon, all the events where it should have sent me notifications. I had also added the doorbell to our Smartthings app and was getting doorbell notifications from that app.

Things I've tried:

  • Everything on this page and this page:
    • Verified that notifications are on in the Tapo app
    • Verified that notifications are on in the app's Android settings
    • Verified that there are notifications in the Tapo app when tapping on the bell icon
    • Made sure the Tapo app and doorbell are on the latest versions
    • Rebooted the camera
    • Turned off the battery saving feature for the Tapo app on my phone
    • Verified that Do Not Disturb is off on my phone
    • Verified that my phone and the camera have stable wifi connections
    • Logged into the Tapo app on my wife's phone using both my account and her account. She received notifications in both situations
  • I've also tried:
    • Removing and reinstalling the Tapo app multiple times
    • Removing the doorbell from the Smartthings app
    • Searching this community and the web in general for solutions, but haven't found any

I'm receiving notifications for all my other apps on my phone. I'm not experiencing any problems with my phone other than not receiving notifications from the doorbell. My wife receives every notification.

I'm hoping someone here can help me get this fixed. I will most likely be returning it if not.

  @grestle

Could you please clarify whether you are not receiving any push notifications from the app (both detection and doorbell-press notifications), or is it specifically just the doorbell-press notifications that you are missing?

On your Tapo app, go to the Me page, click Notifications, under Device Notifications, make sure the Device option is enabled. Then go to Management, ensure the doorbell is also toggled here.

  @Wayne-TP

Thanks for trying to help. tl;dr, I started receiving all notifications from the doorbell so I guess I'm ok now, but here are the details in case it helps anyone.

I was not receiving ANY notifications from the app.

Me > Notifications > Device Notifications > Device was enabled.

Me > Notifications > Device Notifications > Management > Doorbell was enabled.

2 days after I posted here my wife asked if we could change the sound that played when the doorbell was pushed. I had not touched the app or the doorbell after posting here. I went into the app on my phone and we listened to all the available options and picked a new sound. We then did the same thing for the paired chime. Right after doing that I started receiving all the notifications from the app (detection and doorbell-press). No idea why that would fix notifications, or if it was just some very weird coincidence, but I'll take it.
