Model: KL430
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: good question

Hey Folks,

I got 2 KL430's in yesterday, took the time to start setting them up today.  They are acting very werid, hard for me to believe both are broken.

So, when in setup mode, no issues goes between orange and green forever.  However, as soon as they are joined to wifi (before you name it) they go into this 30-45 second reboot/reset cycle (yes both of them).

After the reboot, you have 15 seconds to control it, like adding the name, turning off and on... but after that it wont respond, then it will go dark, then animate like it just got power, and return to previous setting.  rinse repeat.

Now, its possible I got 2 broken ones, but why doesnt it do this reboot cycle when freshly reset?  I figure it could be something on my end, but I have no idea what.  Ive tried different rooms, different APs, all the same results.  I have 20 or more of the HS100 smart plugs that are working just fine.

Anyone have any idea?

EDIT: So, I have continued troubleshooting.  I have enterprise wifi so I did some testing.  I isolated a SSID to one AP to test, made sure 2.4 was available to be specified.... etc... heres the weird part, I unplugged that AP accidentally at one point.  then i noticed the light wasnt rebooting constantly anymore...  so it only does it when its connected to wifi...

EDIT2: So, more troubleshooting, interesting development... these appear to only support a /24 network.  so home users are good to go... people like me with a /21 not so much.  I created a separate VLAN for this to test and was very surprised it worked.... will test more tomorrow

EDIT3: Welp, its the next day and I have confirmed its the /24 network.  I created a brand new VLAN with just a /24, the light strip and my phone the only clients on it.  Worked fine.  Changed the VLAN and expanded it to a /23, restarted both devices and the reboots started.  I have submitted this to TPLINK in hopes they can patch taht in firmware.  I really like these strips and want to expand out.

@ShadowCVL

I just installed 25 of these on a ubiquiti system and didn't have any issues but this is an interesting read and something to think about in the future.

@Sergeantpup

are you on a /24 subnet?  I think so far that's my issue is my main subnet is a /21. I'm going to do some more troubleshooting today and will edit main post if I find anything else.

@Sergeantpup

Interesting, I edited above from my testing, as soon as I expanded from a /24 to a /23 it went bad on me.

@ShadowCVL  I am seeing the same behavior on my Eero network with a /22 network.  Have you found any solutions? I have contact support but they only send irrelevant answers.

I havent messed with it, probably should. I just created some static routes between vlans and left it. Home Assistant cant discover these either because of the same issue.

@ShadowCVL Support sent me a beta firmware to try that seemed to resolve my issue.  It is working fine on the larger subnet.  Thanks for replying.
