Tapo cameras via Tapo H200 Hub and Smart Add Automation
Tapo cameras via Tapo H200 Hub and Smart Add Automation

Can this be done please? I have a Tapo C720 camera and a Tapo H200 Hub and micro SD Card.
The camera is setup and working and the Tapo app on my mobile is working with the C720. The H200 Hub is connected to my modem via the Ethernet port and has been setup on my mobile via the Tapo app and is working. The H200 Hub has the micro SD Card installed.
I need to add a new Automation by Tapo App>>Smart>>Add Automation.
https://www.tapo.com/au/faq/410/
But instead of using it as a doorbell, I need to set it up as camera Motion Detection or Person Detection et cetera. All recordings from the camera go to the H200 Hub SD card.
Is this correct?

Tapo C720 does not support a connection with the H200 hub. Local recording is available when the microSD card is inserted on the C720 itself.

That is disappointing. I glanced at the overview too quickly and the H200 lists this:
Connect 4 cameras or doorbells. Only works with Tapo cameras C425, Tapo C420, Tapo C400, Tapo D230, and more. I thought "and more" were cameras, but they are only sensors and switchers.
I do have the D230 connected to the H200 Hub, and I was hopping to use it for the C720.
For the C720, to copy multiple photos or videos from an SD Card in the camera is impractical. The only way to do it is to climb a ladder, unscrew and remove the whole assembly, remove the SD Card and put it into an SD Card reader. Then you have to put it all back again.

Lucky you. I did buy it and I'm stuck with it. I find it slow also. When pressing the play button arrow, it takes about 5 seconds for the video to display live. This is frustrating if you want to view something quickly.
The Future Request is a waste time in my opinion. There are over 80 pages in that link with many 0 replies. I doubt my request would be implemented or even looked at.
It has finally happened to my C720 garage camera. The SD card is full. There are many files in the card that I want, and it too tedious to copy via the phone app. The only way to do it is to climb a ladder, unscrew and remove the whole assembly.
I should have got the Eufy Security Floodlight Camera with three, 3,000-lumen floodlights. It supports network-attached storage (NAS).

Well... It looks like they "HAVE" finally done it at last. Did you find the link here:
Tapo Smart Hub Compatible Camera List
Tapo Smart Hub Compatible Camera List. Updated 06-13-2025
The C720 is now listed
It also states: To access these features, please ensure your Hub’s firmware is updated to the latest version. Looks like version 1 for the C720
I must try this and see if I can get mine to work.

The 720 will connect to the H200. My hub firmware is 1.5.1 Build 20250228 Rel 27505.
On the Home screen, tap the hub

Connect existing Devices
Tick the 720

I also have my 410 connected.

tp-link is also releasing the Tapo H500 Hub. They do not say when it will be on sale yet.
.
C720 is on the compatibility list as with many more cameras. It has built in storage and expandable to 16TB. Lot of the bells and whistles that I probably wont use. I will see how much it is first before considering retiring the H200 hub.
