Deco M5 Signal Source
I purchased the Deco M5 as a solution to poor wifi reception at certain areas of the house, esp the garage. The AP I have set up in the garage insists on connecting to the signal source furthest away instead of the one about 5 feet away from it. Kind of defeats the purpose of buying this setup. Any update on when signal source will be a selectable item?

It seems that the signal strength obtained by the garage Deco does not reach the threshold value which failed to trigger the AP steering. You can try to move them further away between each other.
Meanwhile, you can power cycle the garage Deco and verify whether it connect to the cloer Deco automatically.
Still the same, you can power off the main Deco and turn on the other 2 Decos only and then you can turn the main Deco on once the third one connects to the second one.
May it help.

@Kevin_Z Okay, thanks. I'll give that a try.
Merry Christmas

@Jack2222 Mine seems to have worked. I unplugged everything except the one I wanted to connect to. Plugged in the one in the garage and it connected to the closest one. Then plugged in the furthest/main one and all seems good now but this has to be a selectable option in future updates

I found a solution,
1. in the deco app click on the globe icon (says internet)
2. click on the three dots column in the top right - select "Set Main Deco"
3. Choose the main deco to be the unit in the middle of your chain and click SAVE.
4. You will see a warning that says "make sure this deco is connected to your modem or ethrenet" - IGNORE IT even if your main unit is not connected to the internet it will still work.
All your units will now connect to the new "main Deco" that is in the middle of your netwrork regardless if this is the one that is physically conected to the internet.

@Jack2222 I'm not sure this works anymore. I have latest firmware and I've changed my default to a unit that isn't connected to the internet and it doesn't work. Has anyone done this with latest firmware as of June 2020?

Yep, it's not working anymore.
To be honest this issue is well known for a few years now (you can find forum posts on this exact issue dating back to E4 units and older). I think tp-link is just not interested to fix this problem at all. would not recommend people to buy Deco unless their internet router happens to be in the exact center of the house.
