I just bought the Archer AX11000 last week at Costco. In our home, we have a family level, a basement and an upstairs. The router is in the center of the house 
on the family level connected via CAT 6 ethernet to 1gb cable modem. I get 960-970mb with ethernet to the cable modem. I get about 890-930mb when I
plug in directly to the AX11000 with ethernet.  Internet speed test is showing 770 Mpbs download.
As for Wireless:  When I'm 6 feet away, 5ghz gives me 334 Mbps download, 2.4ghz gives me 47 Mbps download. I don't have high speed upload.
Walking upstairs one flight of stairs (download speeds): 44 Mbps 5ghz, 42 2.4ghz
I am using today's firmware update: 1.1.1 Build 20200716 rel.84595(5553)
I don't have OFDMA or Smart Connect enabled. HomeCare QoS I have download set to 1000 Mbps for all online activities.

Has anyone else experienced extremely poor wireless reception when moving up just one flight of stairs? If so, what have you done to fix it? I'm ready to return this.

Hello, please help verify some details and we will try to fix it together:
1. May I know who is your ISP?
2. When the computer is connected to the AX11000 5GHz wireless, please confirm the wireless link speed at that time, how to get that? You can refer to the below link.

3. Check and ensure the QoS setting on the router is on Standard mode and no high priority devices. Or simply reset the AX11000 and reconfigure it from scratch, leave all settings by default and test the speed again.
4. You are suggested to refer to the below instruction to narrow down the issue as well.

Thank you for your reply.  

I am using Optimum Online/Altice for my ISP.

I have attached screenshots for all tests that I did.  

 

I am using the most up to date Windows 10/64 updates and the most up to date Dell drivers on my laptop.

Hello,

 

According to the screenshots you attached, when you walk upstairs, the link speed between your laptop and the router has dropped to 97.5M and the signal strength is quite low, which shows one bar. If the link speed is that slow and the signal is bad, there is no way to get good speed, the distance between the laptop and the router is too far away for build up the 5GHz connection, or there might be too much interference, such as walls or barriers, you need to relocate the router and try to find a place where can give you a better coverage:

 

 

Try a mobile app to analyze the WiFi around you, review all the channels in 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Next, review the channels on the router for 2.4GHz and 5GHz. If the channels match that around you, an indication of overcrowded. Manually adjust the channels for 2.4GHz and 5GHz to lesser use channels.

 

There are possibly other wireless parameters that need tweaking, such as Power Transmit, narrow or wide band, etc. but start with the above and below link:
