@Kevin_Z  I am using Archer AX90 and unable to connect to OpenVPN  using the VPN Client config page following instructions on this page: https://www.tp-link.com/my/support/faq/3135/.When I try to connect it remains stuck on "connecting".

I have:

Archer AX90(EU) Ver1.0

Firmware Version:  1.1.5 Build 20210903 rel.39200(4555)

Hardware Version:   Archer AX90 v1.0/v1.20

Best regards.

Just reverted back to beta firmware, and oVPN connected restored back to 45 mb and no interruptions for video streaming.

@Kevin_Z

Yes, EU version.

Router could not find the new firmaware itself, so I downloaded from the official TPLink website and now have this one:

Firmware Version: 1.3.2 Build 20210902 rel.35277(4555)

Hardware Version: Archer AX20 v1.0

I have to report that with that version, VPN got worse :(((

oVPN connection became less stable (online video is interrupting from time to time) and L2TP gives less than 1mb (!!), even previously it was around 4-5...

Is the country code of your AX20 an EU version? And the hardware version is V1.0? There is already a newer version on the official website:

Archer AX20(EU)_V1_210902

Understand.  Was hoping to get more bandwidth when using the vpn client. Is there a chance that wireguard can be added to the AX21 ? It is lightweight than OpenVPN and we should benefit having more bandwidth from it. Thanks

@Memjunk

I've discussed this concern with the engineers that 50Mbps for a speed between the VPN Client on the home wireless router and the VPN server is pretty good, it's not bad as you thought. Apparently, the router CPU's can't handle the VPN encryption as fast as a computer with the app can. When you create an encrypted tunnel between the router and the VPN provider, that will add overhead to the processer/resources of the router, which would cause a drop in performance which also means a drop in WAN to Internet throughput.

You can also compare the speed of the VPN Client on some other home wireless router if that is possible, you might get similar results.
