@cordswires For more information about smart DHCP you can read it: https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/stories/detail/1804
If I remember correctly, smart DHCP is enabled by default, you can check in the Deco app, go to the last tab (named "more") then in advanced->smart DHCP
Smart DHCP has been implemented in M5 firmware version 1.6.0.

@Nardol yeah, I use the M5s in access point mode. What is the Smart DHCP setting? Is it new? I assume it should be disabled (as my cable modem is already handing out DHCP addresses) but even when disabling it, the problems persisted... and I don't assume *enabling* the option would be a good idea?

@cordswires if I understand correctly, you use your Deco in access point mode, not in router mode.
If Yes, have you tried to togle smart DHCP in More->Advanced?
If you use router mode, that's strange it has worked well before because in router mode, only the main deco should be wired to you ISP router.

@TP-Link UPDATE ON PREVIOUS MESSAGE:
After a lot of troubleshooting I found the real issue. For years, I've had two of my Deco units hardwired to the ethernet, because of spotty reception at the far end of my building. This never caused any issues, until firmware 1.7.3 -- two hardwired Decos are no longer an option, as they start fighting with each other and cause the DHCP server of my cable modem to go haywire. Unplugging the cable from the (non-master) unit solved the problem.

@TP-Link M5 1.7.3 is a nightmare for me so far. I wish I could roll back to 1.7.1... after updating, about half of the devices in my home lost wifi connection (including all Apple devices: 2 iPhones, 2 iPads, 2 Macbooks, and an Apple TV). If I try to reconnect (or even delete and re-add the wifi credentials) then I get connection for a few seconds before getting thrown off again. I had to disable Beamforming and Fast Roaming in order for things to work, but if I touch any of these settings then the whole thing comes crashing down again. No idea what was changed in 1.7.3, but I wish I had not upgraded... :-(
Is there any way to downgrade to 1.7.1?

@Balloni honestly I had no issues with 1.7.1 or .3. I've been very happy with my M5s.

@CenterInYou other than that how's your experience with 1.7.3 so far?
Do you also have issues with mesh or something else?
I'm looking forward for an update but I don't wanna leave the "stable" 1.6.3 given I work from home and need some reliability.

@fernandocardoso I have the same issue. Through the app I was able to update mine this past Tuesday but my in-laws whom I also manage and have them in my Deco app show up to date at 1.7.1. Must be a slow roll out.

@TP-Link Why is the update not available via hardware and the website support?
I have access to my mother-in-law's routers and from there, I was able to perform the update.
My routers and my mother-in-law's are the same version 3.2

It looks like this morning I'm given the option to update to 1.7.3 through the Deco App here in the US.
