@TP-Link I just opened my box of two XE70 Pros an hour ago, and they're already disconnected and back in the box for return to Amazon.  I'll just upgrade to newer Asus routers who use a decent app interface, and have an extensive web ui for those of us who actually want to see and control the security and configuration of their networks.  They also don't require a cloud sign in to manage a local device. That's the actual deal breaker. Your responses and take on this is pretty insulting and I'll likely abandon your brand altogether. Wish I'd read this thread sooner, but at least I'm not stuck with these things.

I just bought an XE75 and discovered how awful the web UI is.  The app works, i read most of this thread.  I guess i will return it and pick up another asus.  This is just awful.  Keep the app for the non technical, give users the power to setup their router as they want on a real UI.

Does anyone know how much effort it is to convert an iPhone/Android app to a web UI? Bigger than a breadbox? I understand development is not free and that any development TP-Link does do on this will not reap them any profits because they would be providing this to existing customers, but it could stop people from fleeing to another vendor. I'm an existing customer, but I won't be a future customer if TP-Link continues to treat us like we don't matter.

  @HibsMax I mean, there are phone testing applications which are used to simulate a phone in order to test an app, and you could use one of those, but generally, the app is designed to use a touchscreen and wouldn't translate super easily. They've already got the web service running on the router, but they refuse to expose the config elements to it, which would be painfully simple.  My bigger problem after looking at the app a bit more is that it is incredibly elementary.  I've been an Asus user for a number of years, and while they aren't the most configurable routers compared to enterprise level stuff, there are a lot of options and capabilities that the Deco just doesn't have.  Even if it did, I'd not want to use my phone to dig through them. I use parental controls intricately, and couple that with an internal DNS server, and comparing logs between router and pihole is useful.  I've got a ton of smart devices that can be challenging and again, sifting through them on a tiny screen is just stupid.

I've been on a Cable based DHCP ISP for years.  I have nearly 100 clients setup in my Deco with reserved IPs, names, etc.  I'm now switching to a fibre PPPoE ISP, it was installed today, and I don't want to cut over because I'm afraid I'll have to factory reset this stupid Deco because I can't FIX IT without the internet working.  What if I enter the user/password, and it doesn't connect?  I can't plug back into the DHCP modem!!

What an absolutely horrid design choice - whoever made this decision should be fired.

BUT  They might have to go back as the web interface is so limited.

Having the main controller on a mobile device is a security issue.  It is a much better practice to administer the system from a local machine and skip the mobile device and the need to create a tp-link profile.

  @nexusDC Thats why I use another router and use the Deco as Access Points...they are absolutely horrible as routers.

  @Petrock I just love the very first post from TP-Link on this thread. They are open to feedback regarding their decision to make configuration only available via app.
