Model: Archer VR2800
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 0.3.0 0.9.1

Changed my internet provider to BT.  I have been using archer vr 2800 as a router. I reset the router and have been trying to connect it to the bt hub for the last 3 days and am having no luck.  I have access to the internet using the hub, I connected the router to the hub via Ethernet so I can access the router but I am unable to establish a connection. TP link shows:

Internet status:   Disconnected

Please check the line quality with your internet service provider

Connection Type: PPPoE

IP address 0.0.0.0

DNS Server 0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0

Gateway. 0.0.0.0

Not very technical and am sure there is a simple solution but after 3 days of reset, reboots and scouring the internet for assistance, disabling DHCP, more resets etc I am loosing the will to carry on.  Any assistance would be appreciated.

  @Philbert

Thank you for getting back to me,  Had a few family issues so had to disapear for a week.

I am not the most technical of people so please bear with me.

The router worked with my virgin internet, once I had it up and running my somewhat erratic virgin connection actually worked, beginning to wish I never changed but couldnt keep up with the price hikes.

I have had a small white open reach box fitted by the BT engineer, currently there are 3 green lights showing. The power and PON light are solid green but the LAN light is constantly flashing.  I took BT TV and now TV so was following the instructions to add the VR2800 to boost my signal through the house as internet is in constant use due to security cameras, working from home and multiple devices used by the kids.

I have tried bypassing the hub and connecting straight to the  Archer VR2800 but still unable to access the internet and unable to view my tv package so back to the drawing board.

I am using bthomehub AT btbroadband DOT com with BT password.

Hey

OK so sounds like you have a FTTP connection, the small square white box is the give away

When setting up the router as no longer have VDSL (FTTP is faster and different) you will need to configure the VR2800 differently

Go to this manual

https://static.tp-link.com/1910012125_Archer%20VR2800(EU)_V1_UG.pdf

On page 16  4.5.1   follow those 6 steps.   When it says about connecting a cable, connect a network cable from the LAN port on your white box, to the yellow port on the VR2800 labelled  LAN4 WAN.

Switch to Wireless Router mode as in the manual and username    bthomehub username / password as you did earlier..

Feeling that should fix it for you :)

Hi, welcome to the community.

Since you mentioned there is a BT hub already, you might try to change VR2800 to wireless router mode and choose Dynamic IP as the internet connection type to have a look.

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

Thanks for your answers.  A week on and even more stressed and a lot greyer. I have reset hub and router so many times, tried so many troubleshooting solutions and watched  to many connections self help videos but no further forward.

When I follow the wizard I end up with a solid power light, 2.4 GHz  and 5 GHz Wi-Fi lights and a lan light.

There is no DSL light or internet light. Where am I going wrong?

if I go to advanced options and change the mode to wireless the router reboots and then the internet indicator comes on but is orange, still no dsl light though.

where am I going wrong??????

I am using the user name and password that the bt provided

  @Sue1410

Hey Sue

I am a BT customer also, the username is simply     bthomehub AT btbroadband DOT com    with password   BT    is that what they provided?   You tried this?  screenshot below

Also what type of connection are BT giving you?  Is it Fibre or Full Fibre?    if you are standard fibre (up to 80mbps) set this as PPPoA (not PPPoE as in my picture below)  The give away for full fibre is they will have installed a small white box in your house, if this is the case the VR wont work for you.   The VR2800 only works on standard fibre connections

Reading your post also don't try connecting this into the BT hub, you are best bypassing the BT hub to use this instead of the hub.    Remove the hub and place the phone line into the VR2800.   Set the Username and Password as below, select VDSL if it asks you and that should be it.

If you post a pic of your setup we can take a look and see should you get stuck
