Model: Deco X68
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.1.0 Build 20220530 Rel. 38490

Having a weird issue with my Decos, my download speed is significantly faster than upload despite my internet being synchronous. The issue persists whether running in AP or router mode. Setting and unsetting QoS doesn't help, testing devices directly wired into the router doesn't show any speed issues.

Trying a different port on the wired router didn't help either, this has persisted through at least one firmware upgrade. It seems that upload speeds drop off a lot more with distance than download speed, this doesn't seem to be specific to either unit. This disparity is reproducible on multiple devices, I am wondering if there is some sort of logic built into the system that boosts download speeds and/or if there is a setting I can configure.

Here is an example speed test via Deco

EDIT: Seems like beamforming might be the culprit, with it turned off overall speed is slower but disparity betwen up and down has shrunk, however it is not as consistent as it was with beamforming on, here are example speed test runs (machine in the same place, no changes between runs):

Update:

This Article Applies to:

Deco XE75, Deco XE75Pro, Deco XE5300, Deco X90, Deco X68/X3600/W7200

Issue Description/Phenomenon:

Typical Network Topology:

Verizon Internet --- Verizon Fiber ONT (Aka ONT/Alcatel G-211M-C) --- Main Deco )))((( PC1 and PC2

PC1 is wired into the main Deco by Ethernet (Gigabit adapter), PC2 supports Wi-Fi 6 and is wirelessly connected to the main Deco.

When you are running a speed test on these devices, you might notice:

On PC1: Almost full ISP speed.

On PC2: The Download speed is normal but the upload speed is only 200-300Mbps.

Solutions:

  • The official firmware has fixed this issue already. Please make sure the current firmware is up-to-date.

  • However if you still have similar issue with other models or the latest firmware, please start a new thread with the following information:

1. Model Number and current firmware version of the Deco;

2. The ISP internet bandwidth and the model number of the ISP cable/fiber modem;

3. Wired and Wireless speedtest screenshots directly from the main Deco.

  @David-TP

Thank you for getting back to me, I disabled SIP ALG and tried three different speed test services all showing the same thing, at best up is about half of down.

I did my testing by setting Decos into router mode and completely bypassing my external router.

  @prizrak420

Hi, Thanks for the confirmation.

While we are waiting for the feedback from the senior engineers during the weekend, could you please run a speed test via Ookla Speedtest as well to see whether it reported the same half upload bandwidth?

Best regards.

  @David-TP

Hi David,

I ran Ookla's test as well when disabling SIP ALG but here is a fresh one done right now

  @prizrak420

Did you find any resolution here? I have the same issue. 500 Mbps fiber internet. I get the 500 down but always 75 up. I have Qos off and antivirus. I have SIP ALG off currently. I have beamforming and fast roaming off also. If I restart the routers, for the first minute or 2 I get 500 down and up, but then it goes back to slow upload speed.

Negative, they wanted to do a remote session but I'm not exactly crazy about that

  @prizrak420

Hi, thank you very much for your attention. Currently there is a new beta firmware for Deco X68 which could fix the upload speed issue and if you are interested, please have a check of the private message.

Thank you again.

Best regards.
