Hi,

I just bought a Re220 AC750 Mesh Wi-Fi extender (not using the mesh, only the extender under a different SSID).

I have only 1 device plugged in to the extender, my laptop. I bought this only for my office which is the other end of my end on a different level above.

The Speed that I get on the extender VS the original router is appalling.

The original routing is giving me speeds of above 500 MBPS but the extender only gives me 12 MBPS. I have tried reseting the extender, rebooting the extender. I have even brought the extender right next to the original router just to test it out and its the same. Nothing changes.

This is the original router speed:

This is the extenders speed:

PLEASE HELP!

If this is how this extender performs I rather return it and get a different extender.

Other details if required:

Thanks

Ankush

  Hello @AnkushK

Thank you for your feedback. For dual-band range extender, we recommend testing the 5Ghz band when test performance. You could set up different Wi-Fi SSIDs for the range extender 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz Wi-Fi and test the 5Ghz Wi-Fi band.

As Range extender receives data from the router and then forward it to the connected clients and speed will decrease during the transmission,  the speed of router at RE's location is quite important.

Can you test the 5Ghz speed of the router at the location of the Range extender, this is the speed that RE can get from the router.

Then please test the 5Ghz speed of range extender, and check what's the Wi-Fi link speed between extender and network device.

Btw, RE200 is a pretty basic dual-band model with 433Mbps 5Ghz Link speed, due to half-duplex mode,  the real performance can be halved based on the speed RE receives from the router. If you wish to get better performance, you might consider some models with a little bit higher spec, like dual-band range extenders with 2MIMO(5G 866Mhz link speed or higher).
