Model: Deco P9
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.1.3 Build 20210616 Rel. 31654

Hello!

I own 3 Deco P9 Meshes, 2 of them are connected to a TZE Hybrid (DSL+LTE) Modem from my provider, the 3rd one is only for backup purposes.

Everything is working without problems... also all my 2.4GHz-Only-IoT devices (20 pcs).

Except ONE device. A dishwasher.

  • I already tried switching the Deco to 2.4GHz only - no success
  • I tried with default settings - no success
  • I tried with Googles DNS servers - no success
  • I tried switching between Router- and Accesspoint-Mode - no success
  • The blocking list in Deco App is empty too

I always get the error (on dishwasher-side) that I have to "Remove MAC adress blocking".

The Deco P9 and the Deco App doesn't have such a setting.

I am only able to connect the dishwasher to the Modem the Deco P9 is connected to (it also has WiFi).

The settings are the same: same encryption, same passphrase, same DNS.

Currently I have 31 devices which are currently connected to my P9 - and 50 which are currently offline (20 of them have been online months ago).

Is there anything I can try too?

Is this a known bug?

Kind regards

This error vaguely rings a bell with me and a printer ages ago..  pretty sure it was the encryption algorithm used for WPA2 if memory serves.

In short  WPA2 with TKIP worked, WPA2 with AES threw this error.  Just check if your ISP device is running TKIP instead, perhaps a firmware update is available for the dishwasher?

  @Philbert Thanks, but both run WPA2 AES. That was ky first tought too, but the encryption is the same.

Dishwasher is up to date.

Yeah sounds like a strange one, there is always one device doesnt play ball! :)

How about trying on Guest Network, set with no password and no Security (encryption)? Just to see if it is password/encryption, or something else.

  @StA

Besides the above suggestions, you could try to turn off fast roaming/beamforming on the Deco APP>More>Advanced. It might not be related to the error message but worth a try.

Thanks a lot.

  @Alexandre.

Yes, it works without password and encryption!

I already tried both encryption methods available on my main network on the Deco P9.

So the encryption is the problem.

The network of my Modem I mentioned above is also WPA2 as my Deco P9.

Are there differencies on the P9 encryption?

Hello David!

I deactivated both and it works too.

Will try with only one of them to see what's the problem...

@David-TP

FastRoaming is the culprit! :)

When deactivated, everything works.

What are the exact advantages of FastRoaming? Do I "need" it? :)

Fast Roaming is the 802.11r standard, also known as Fast BSS Roaming.  In short it's an improvement on the roaming to allow a much faster handover from AP to AP.

Reason for it, some newer more time sensitive apps require a very fast roam and may not work if this isnt enabled, skype,teams and other voice/video services for example will drop / freeze if this isnt enabled and you try to roam AP.

Do you actually need it?   Not specifically unless you have one of the Apps affected.  However, more and more apps are going to use this as time passes.  Its just unfortunate this one device doesnt support it

Personally, imho I would enable it and leave the dishwasher offline or find another IOT network specifically for it.  Perhaps im brutal but would rather kick this one device vs removing a feature that is quite standard now for WiFi.   Baby out with the bathwater and all that

  @Philbert

I am using Teams, but only on a stationary iMac here.

We have two P9 activated - one on each floor. So handing over to another Mesh doesn't happen that often.

Most devices are stationary in our home, except our smartphones.
