Model: Deco XE5300
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.1.5 Build 20220429 Rel. 1970

I have a Deco XE5300 (3 devices) with an Ethernet backbone on two NetGear GS108 switches. I had this running for a few weeks then a few days ago suddenly all the hardwired device got disconnected, and no longer get DHCP addresses. All the WiFi devices are still happy - Wifi PCs and laptops, Android, iPhone, iRobot, Portal device. But home office workstation, printer, work laptop, Smart TV, XBox, gaming PC, everyone of these wired devices got booted. I tried software restart of the Deco from the android app, it did not help. I tried hard restart of the Deco, Cable modem NetGear CM1150V, NetGear GS108 switch, it did not help. Deco network diagnostics finds no issue. IPv6 enabled (provider Comcast and modem support it). QoS disabled. Operation mode Wi-Fi router.

LAN IPv4 is 192.168.68.1, which is indeed the subnet I was using for the LAN, and the expected gateway for the Ethernet attached machines on the LAN.

DHCP Server has start IP 192.168.68.50, end 192.168.71.250. Sees 10 IP addresses assigned, which are the Wifi devices,

No address reservation.

I don't recall doing a maintenance on the Deco at the time all my devices got dropped. But I don't see an audit log on the Deco either to ascertain if my recollection is accurate.

How may I get my Ethernet working again?

I just recently switched to TP-Link from a NetGear Wifi router, I really hope this is not a sign of more troubles to come.

  @David_Burg

Hi, Welcome to the community.

Were 2*Netgear GS108 wired to the main Deco XE5300?

I think your current issue might be related to this: Manual Signal Source Selection on Deco

You could try to only unplug and plug the switch back from the main Deco to see whether it could restore the Ethernet connection later.

By the way, is there any chance that you could connect these 2 switches behind satellite XE5300?

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

@David-TP the main Deco XE5300 is wired on one end to the Comcast modem and on the other wired to the NetGear GS108 in the same utility closet. The other 7 ports of that NetGear GS108 are connected to the home Ethernet wires for 7 different rooms. Two of those rooms outlets have the AP Deco XE5300. One of those rooms is my home office, and the outlet is connected to my second NetGear GS108.

Because all the Deco are connected to the main NetGear GS108 switch, either directly inside the utility closet for the main Deco XE5300, or via the house' Ethernet wiring, I expect the Deco to communicate via this Ethernet backbone and not through WiFi. Hence the linked article Manual Signal Source Selection on Deco - Home Network Community (tp-link.com) did not appear relevant to my issue.

I have already attempted to unplug and reconnect the main Deco to the main NetGear GS108 switch in the utility closet, as well as cut the power to all the equipment - modem, router, switch -, let it cool off for a minute then restart it from modem, then router, then switch. No success restoring the Ethernet connectivity.

I need the main NetGear GS108 switch in the utility closet behind the router and before the house' hard wiring, by design as there needs to be a switch or a router with 8 ethernet ports to connect the whole home. The satellite XE5300 are in different rooms where it is meaningful for them to extend the WiFi coverage in AP mode. It does not make sense for me to have Ethernet switches in these other areas where the satellites are connected.

In the Android Deco app, I see a blue cable logo atop the connections between the main Deco and the satellite Deco. Does that mean that the Decos are indeed using the Ethernet backbone between themselves, just that all the other Ethernet devices on the backbone are getting denied DHCP service from the router Deco?
