New Release Wi-Fi Routers Support WireGuard VPN Now
VPNs have grown a great deal over the past few years, and as a result, we have seen an increase in demand for alternative VPN options on TP-Link routers. WireGuard VPN could be one of the most popular VPNs that we are seeing in the public community and forums. We are excited to announce here that we do have some router models that support or plan to support WireGuard VPN feature, and there will be more in the near future.

1. You will need to perform a firmware upgrade on your router when the official firmware is released.

It's suggested to choose one that already supports the features you require when purchasing. The list above is subject to change and might not include all models and hardware versions. For other models that are not listed above, there is currently no definitive information if WireGuard VPN would be possible or be available in the future, and we don't have any specific details that I can share around. It's suggested to keep an eye on the official website or on the router web GUI/Tether app for any new updates.

Any progress on this?
It has been one year and nothing.
I would like to see Wireguard and DOH DNS over HTTPS for AX73.
Competition from ASUS is strong now and has all these features.

Great work on these but 1 year and still no progress, good luck on moving those dead stocks still in circulation 😅
Anyway, finally got myself an Asus for better and faster support 💪😀💪

I switched to a different brand now. I needed: wireguard, DoT(H) IPv6 Firewall custom rules, IoT VLAN.
I think TP-Link focuses too muich on new models giving them some new features to sell fast, but then neglect existing products.

@Waterfox To be fair, it was never a PROMISE. However, I too am very disapointed that I bought a brand new model and it still lacks this functionality. Pretty embarassing on their part. :(

This is from MikroTik - remember about FirmWare update to 7.8 minimum:
This screenshot is from high-level M/T router.
Of course there is a lot of easier setup in TP-LINK, but life goes on and any next device in my administration will be from MikroTik.
