Model: Tapo T100
Hardware Version: V7
Firmware Version:

I have garden lights already plugged in with Tapo P100 smart switch and they are currently scheduled to turn on/off periodically. I want to use Tapo T100 motion sensor to detect any motion on my front door and automatically turn on lights for 5 minutes. I would like to confirm if combination of Tapo P100 and T100 will enable me to do this. Specially turn on the lights with motion detection and AUTOMATICALLY TURNING OFF after 5 minutes

Creating two automation rules can achieve this usage.  How to create Smart Action (automation or a shortcut) of my Tapo devices

1. Turn on the light: When T100 motion detected, Then Turn On P100.

2. Turn off the light: When P100 turns on, Then Turn Off P100. Delay Action 5 minutes.

@Wayne-TP Thanks for you reply. Can you please also confirm if i would need Smart Hub as well for that? or i can connect these two devices without hub. If needed, which one i should use H100 or H200 ?

Tapo hub is needed for using the sensor. Tapo H100 and H200 are both workable.

Tapo H200 can be used as a storage center for the Tapo Sub-G cameras (battery camera so far), if you're planning to add such a camera into your smart home in the future, H200 would be a good choice. TP-Link Sub-GHz Technology Brings the New Tapo Lineup of Smart Hub, Sensors,Switches and More.

Whether a product needs to be used with a hub will be mentioned on the product overview page. If it is not stated that a hub is required, the device can be directly connected to the router WiFi.

@Wayne-TP Thanks for all support so far. One last thing, with the actions you have recommended, how can in ensure that lights are turned on ONLY during night time, NOT during day light? Can i use EFFECTIVE TIME settings to limit turning on lights only during certain time window?

Yes. By setting the effective time, you can control this automation rule to take effect only at the desired time. At other times, T100 movement detection won't trigger the smart light to turn on.

@Babar-Malik Hi, in related bits, I wondered if you will be mounting your T100 outside and considering any waterproofing? This is something I'll be trying and just looking for tips :)
