Hello everybody,

 

I have a problem since I started using the wifi extender TL-WA854RE.

Here is a short description of my problem.

When I am using only the modem TD-W9960, I have no issue connecting to it and accessing internet with all my devices through wifi (iOS phones, macbook and computer).

Then, when I plug my wifi extender:
- no problem of internet connection when connecting on the wifi extender through wifi

- when I connect to the modem with Wifi, no internet access available (some kind of internet on my apple devices but not all the time and no internet at all on the computer)

Message available : "no internet, secured"

 

I believe that there is a DHCP conflict between the wifi extender and the modem avoiding me to properly get an IP adress when connecting to the modem.

Here is the error that I get from the windows troubleshooter tool:

QUOTE

wifi doesn't have a valid ip configuration

UNQUOTE

Additionally, I have this when trying to renew the ip:

IP_unavail

Here is the ipconfig that I can see when trying to connect to the modem with extender plugged:

Indeed, when I connect to the modem, my computer is unable to get an IP adress but I don't have any problem when connected on the wifi extender.

 

Additionally, I confirm that as soon as I unplug the wifi extender and I connect to the modem, I retrieve the internet connection.

I have reseted both the extender and the modem unsuccessfully.

 

Any advices on configuring both modem and extender would be greatly appreciated.

Your TD-W9960 and TL-WA854RE configurations seems fine.

According to the screenshots the only DHCP server in your network is on TD-W9960.

For easier access to the TL-WA854RE WebGUI I would set a static IP address 192.168.17.254.

What seems to be concerning is your Network Status:

When you connect to your modem or RE the network status should be "Your_SSID/Private network".

Check you modem router and RE SSIDs and change the status of the network profile if necessary.

If you don't have any other active DHCP server in your local network this should work as expected.

i don't really know where to change this.

indeed, when looking at the wireless settings, I only have the above options.

any idea of where to change this?

This is a Windows network setting - it's not in your modem router.

Here's how to change the network status to Private in Windows.

Also make sure that you're with the latest FW updates on both TD-W9960 and TL-WA854RE.

OK. Let's test the following:

Remove all these optional settings from TD-W9960 and save the settings:

 

Set TL-WA854RE with a static IP address of 192.168.17.254.

Make sure its DHCP server is OFF.

Netmask: 255.255.255.0

Gateway: 192.168.17.1

Primary DNS: 192.168.17.1

Restart your TD-W9960, when it has started, restart your TL-WA854RE and test if any improvement.

Last but no least - make sure that your TL-WA854RE is with the latest firmware release for its HW version.
