I have just bought deco x80-5g, however, I noticed that the device keep switching between 4G network and 5G althought both signal are adequately received by the unit, at least 4 bar. During this transition, the network keep dropping and making the device not useable literally. Please advise anyway to have the band locked so it won't keep go scanning for other band and using unknown criteria to switch network consistently.

Did you purchase the Deco X80-5G from the local market?

 

Will it keep a stable connection if we set the Network Mode to 4G only?

 By the way, May I know who is your SIM carrier?

Have you noticed Deco X80-5G turn red during the disconnection?

I'll address your questions one by one and provide as much information as possible to give you a clear understanding.

 

This unit was originally purchased in the Hong Kong market during my extended business trip there. Due to the competitively priced fiber network in Hong Kong, the deco was initially used as a mesh unit rather than a network router.

 

Recently, I moved back to Malaysia where the 5G network is more affordable than fiber. Consequently, I repurposed the unit as a 5G router. However, I noticed that this product may not be ideal for use as a 5G router, as it frequently switches between 5G and LTE. Despite understanding SA (Standalone) and NSA (Non-Standalone) modes, I observed that the frequency band often defaults to LTE instead of the specified 5G bands (bands 28 and 78). The router intermittently switches between 5G and 4G, causing momentary network downtime and indicating a red LED light on the router. The red LED light on the router will lit up when the LTE transitioning back to 5g. Both 5G and 4G signals are strong, showing at least four bars. Even with 5G set as preferred, the connection continues to switch, creating a disco lighting effect. While I haven't set the modem to 4G-only mode due to adequate 5G coverage in my area, I may try this when I return home.

 

It appears that the software of this equipment needs significant improvement. The inability to maintain a reliable 5G connection due to frequent scanning suggests a need for a band locking feature to prevent continuous switching. Additionally, if the mesh is used as a router, it also serves as a WiFi unit. I’ve read that other 5G routers can be configured to function solely as 5G routers, delegating WiFi hotspot duties to another device. This setup helps manage processing power and prevents the 5G router from overheating when performing both roles.

 

I've been a long-time supporter of TP-Link products, and my home is fully equipped with the Deco mesh network due to its user-friendly features. However, if this issue isn't resolved, I might need to consider other products once WiFi 7 becomes widely adopted.

 

Currently, I am using the Yes 5G network in Malaysia and hope you can look into this issue.
