Model: Archer AX55
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.3.3 20240628 rel.37017

Hi, just upgraded from Archer A9 to AX55 router.  the transfer went fine for all but 1 device using Tether app. then Web interface for detailed updates.

AX55 is using   SmartConnect.    WPA2/WPA3-Personal

2.4G 20mhz   b/g/n/ax mixed  ch11

5G  20/40/80   a/n/ac/ax mixed  Ch36

  1. on my media PC (windows10) have a USB Wifi AC adapter RTL8811AU (802.11ac 1x1 ) that previously connected to the A9_5G  SSID well, but now wont connect to the AX55 , other than on the 2.4G band.
    1. the AX55 is in the same location as the A9 was.
    2. for the A9, i have separate 5 & 2.4 networks  (A9_5, A9_2) , using SmartConnect on the AX55.)

  2. I have now set the A9 up as a DFS extender to the AX55, and the media PC connects to that device just fine on A9_5 band even though the A9 is further away.
    1. so this is ok for now, but long term may move or disconnect the A9.

  3. any ideas if it is a chipset issue ?   3x phones + 2 other laptops connect to 5G automatically from close to where the mediapc is.

  4. Also, i have found that the channels available for the AX55 are only the lower band + DFS ones.  Channel 161 is not available.
    1. is the wrong firmware loaded as autoupdtate as Download for Archer AX55 | TP-Link Australia lists  Archer AX55(EU)_V1_1.2.6 Build 20231130 as latest.

Hi  @robrbaron ,

If a specific device is having trouble connecting to the Router Wi-Fi network:

    1) Check the Blacklist in the Tether APP.

    2) Update the driver of the client device.

    3) Login to the web management interface of the Router, go to Advanced > Wireless > Wireless Settings, disable the "Smart Connect".

    4) Change the encryption method into "WPA2-PSK/WPA-PSK" to improve compatibility with older devices.

5) Try other wireless modes as well.

6) Try 5G band of guest network for a comparison.

7) Please try to contact Media PC’s support and check the settings of Media PC. You may need to hard reset the Media PC.

  @Joseph-TP thanks for ideas,

1) no blacklist set

2) driver of the client deviceis the most recent MS one,  used RTL from 2022, no change

3)  "Smart Connect".  ok, but this is last resort as major point of upgrade is to use this

4)  encryption method : no change. the RTL connects to the A9 just fine.

5) Try other wireless modes as well.    << what modes do you mean ?

5.1  the RTL woirks if i select b/g/n/ac , on the 2.4 band.

         5.2  but if i force to a/n/ac 5G fails

6) Try 5G band of guest for a comparison. same error

7) Media PC’s: this is an addon USB network, as the built in is Wifi-b only.
