Model: Deco BE85
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: Deco BE85(US)_V2_1.1.1 Build 20241023

im having trouble to set up this deco as a main router in my network at a new location. it has no issue when i set it up as an AP and link other mesh to it. for more context, im from malaysia and the isp provider is TM Unifi. They use PPPoE protocol and vlan id of 500 with iptv of 600. All the info were correct. However i still couldnt make the LED go green no matter how much i restart or reboot or even delete and redo the whole process over and over again. It just keeps being red LED and not connected to the internet.

Very important info is that, when i use the isp provided Asus TUF AX4200 router with the same credentials and vlan id settings, the router is connected to the internet.
The isp provided modem is a Huawei EchoLife HG8240H5 (GPON Terminal). So i would like to ask, is this deco compatible with this modem? Why couldnt i make it work?

I have another set of 3-pack decos X50 in my office. They were set up flawlessly. I could get them to work 'just like that'. follow the steps to add a main network, key in all required credentials, and it just works.

This is what frustrates me as it doesnt work in this deco be85. i've tried to bring this be85 and set it up in my office as a new network. all steps were done the same, but out of 5 tries, only once i could get a green light. im at my wits end on why this is happening. i wish to replace the Asus TUF AX4200 and set up the be85 as a main router at the new location. but now it seems that i can only use this be85 as an AP. which is less than ideal and a big waste of good money. be85s arent cheap.

should i go

  1. ISP -> Huawei Modem -> Asus Router (Bridge Mode) -> deco be85 (main router) ->...; or
  2. ISP -> Huawei Modem -> deco be85 -> ...

frankly, i've tried both and still couldnt get it to work for either

im using my office's tplink id to set up the new network. i read from other forums that said 1 id can handle multiple networks. do i need to register a new tplink id for every new main network that i try to setup?

Hi, Deco BE85 should work with Huawei EchoLife HG8240H5.

The expected tology would be : ISP -> Huawei Modem -> deco be85.

I noticed there are 4*gigabit ports on the Huawei ONT. Did ISP allow internet access via all of them or just one single LAN port?

-There is a default ISP profile for TM Unifi. Please also select this profile during setup to see whether it helps.

-If Huawei ONT is connected to the 10Gbps port of Deco BE85, please connect to one of the 2.5 Gbps ports to see whether it helps.

It is also suggested to manually clone the MAC address of the Asus TUF AX4200 on Deco to see whether it helps:

How to Configure MAC Clone on Deco if Deco fails to connect to the internet

Please also install the 1.1.3 beta firmware here first:

If the issue continues, please save a copy of the web UI system log and forward the log to support.forum@tp-link.com (please add the forum ID#783982)

Thank you very much and best regards.

having the same problem as yours.
I bought 3 units, all Deco has been tried but failed, LED turned to solid red.
Calling the support, no one pick the phone as well.
Spent so much money and time on that "shxt"
I won't purchase if read your message early.
Really regret to keep continue supporting TP Link products.

  @Elffy

I switched back to my previous setup that AX6000 as router and 4 units of X90 as AP. It is no problem. That means no problem with the Unifi Modem.

@David-TP

My existing setup is Unifi Modem (dlink, model DPN-FX3060V) > TP Link AX6000 > TP Link Mesh X90 (as AP).
Wanna set BE85 as the main router, directly connecting to Unifi Modem.

For this new setup, exactly following the YouTube guidelines, and keyed in the PPPoE user name and password correctly (confirmed with Unifi Customer Care). All done but failed at Internet setting. Attach photos for your reference.

  @Elffy

Hi, thank you very much for the feedback.

I notice "Dlink DPN-FX3060V" is a GPON all-in-one router with WiFi. Did you change it to an ONT/fiber modem only?

If DPN-FX3060V is in the default mode, I think you might have set the PPPoE Credentials on the Dlink GPON router already.

You can try to set "Dynamic IP" on the Deco BE85 to see whether it made any difference.

Moreover, if you're able to log into the web UI of Archer AX6000, it is also suggested to save a picture of the following page:

If it is "PPPOE+VLAN" on the Archer AX6000, please also refer to this link to clone the MAC address of Archer AX60 on the Deco BE85:

How to Configure MAC Clone on Deco

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.
