I've been having a bit of trouble with this new deco X10 setup. I have zero experience with these devices. I originally tried using a dynamic IP as my internet type but after failing I tried using PPPoE as some research seemed to show that is what my ISP uses.

 

Initially I tried entering the SSID and password as the PPPoE credentials which it accepted and tried doing an internet test, and failed. The X10 had a solid red light after creating the wifi network. 

 

Then I did some research and found out I needed to get the PPPoE credentials from my router config. It was asterisked so I called my ISP to give me the details. Worth noting I enabled IPTV/VLAN.

 

After entering the details into the Deco app, now the setup doesn't even accept the PPPoE details and claims that it is invalid, even though I verified with the ISP. 

 

I'm quite frustrated with this setup process. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Hi David,

Good news, all the issues I previously mentioned seem to be gone, even before the firmware upgrade. I now see all the clients connected(a concerning amount, including many just called 'network device' and some other unrecognized device names). Sometimes the up/down speeds are accurate but sometimes when I'm maxing out my internet speed, the app thinks I'm barely doing anything.

Update : I fixed the issue! All I had to do was skip the section where Deco was warning me about the invalid PPPoE credentials, and change the operation mode of the main Deco to Access Point mode in the Advanced settings. This magically solved the connection issue and now I have great coverage and internet speed throughout my whole house.

Right now I still have a bit of issues, such as the app still not recognizing both main and satellite Decos(it keeps telling me it is unable to connect to the Deco). I also cannot see other clients on the network except the phone I used to set up the Deco, and the up/down is always at 0/0 even though my entire family is connected. I'm not in a rush to fix this as the network seems to work well, and I don't want to ruin any progress I've already made. 

TP-Link should definitely make this the default setting if they want you to connect the Deco to your router as a setup. I'm not sure how other people managed to make their install so seamless, maybe it's just me.

Hi, welcome to the community.

Can I have the current firmware version of your Deco X10?

-A new firmware 1.2.0 was released for Deco X10_V1 a few weeks ago. If you haven't installed it, it is suggested to manually install this version through the web UI:

Deco X10_1.2.0 Added VPN, IoT network and Wi-Fi Access Control

 

If the 1.2.0 didn't help, can you save some screenshots of the reported issues?

  • the app still not recognizing both main and satellite Decos(it keeps telling me it is unable to connect to the Deco)
  • cannot see other clients on the network except the phone I used to set up the Deco
  •  the up/down is always at 0/0 even though my entire family is connected
