Are you feeling ok?

  @Jaybonaut grumpy, due to a problem immediately after installing 1.3.3 and adding about 19 reservations followed by a reboot resulted in no clients displayed, trying to add a reservation errored.

Fortunately a further reboot resulted in the router behaving as it should.

  @raven-au That's happened before - where there was a problem until another reboot - I forget what it was, maybe it was tied to the Traffic data section in a prior firmware.  Anyways, glad things are working for you.

  @Kevin_Z Hi Kevin,

I need some advanced technical assistance with my TP-Link Archer GE800 (Hardware Version: [inserisci qui la versione, es. V1]). I am trying to downgrade the firmware, but I am running into a few roadblocks.

First, the standard Web UI is blocking the downgrade file, likely due to an anti-rollback protection in the latest update.

Second, I tried to bypass this by booting the router into Recovery Mode to use TFTP or the Emergency Web Interface. I held the Reset button for over 15 seconds while powering the device on, but the router simply will not enter recovery mode. It doesn't request any file from my TFTP server (I tried setting my PC to static IP 192.168.0.66) and the emergency web page at 192.168.0.1 does not load.

Could you please help me with the following:

1. Is there a specific "transitional firmware" I need to flash first to unlock the downgrade via the Web UI?

2. What is the exact procedure to trigger Recovery Mode on the GE800? (e.g., Is it a different button combination? Does it require a different static IP or a specific recovery filename?)

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey @Forzic

As discussed previously by raven-au, you should be allowed to downgrade the firmware to an older version by entering Firmware Recovery mode:

https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/825110?replyId=1580720

Try pressing the reset button for 15-20 seconds or longer.

BTW, why do you want to downgrade to an older version? Is there any issue with the new official firmware on your GE800?

  @Vendex @Kevin_Z,

Thank you for the updates. I noticed eventhough they must be the same firmware the US version i installed was feeling better than the later released EU.

The router felt firmware felt more responsive. Also, i disabled a couple of features because the fan was constantly activating (hide animation, ai mesh, etc)

The more important part for me is that this router does not request ipv6 properly from my bridge modem.

this has to do with:

Router WAN IPv6 settings:

  • Mode: Native
  • DHCPv6-PD: enabled
  • Prefix size: auto or /56

Could you guys please look into it, because eventhough i tested passthrough, i also checked and it was not dectecting my ipv6 public ip. Also, on Dynamic it gives me another prefix adress. On my previous asus router it supported the feature and it detected my ipv6 properly.

This makes my gaming unstable and my connection. When i enable ipv6 every video begins to buffer.

Thank you very much in advance

  @Zeryoung hi there, I also updated my Archer GE800 to the latest EU firmware and everything seems stable on my end. I have a complex mesh setup with three range extenders including an ethernet backhaul and wireless links over 15 meters, and I have not noticed any major changes in fan noise or stability. Since you are having issues with IPv6 prefix detection and buffering, you might want to try disabling IPv6 entirely for a moment just to see if your gaming stability improves. Many users find that IPv4 is still more reliable for gaming unless your ISP specifically requires IPv6. Regarding the fan, some users noticed that complex LED animations can slightly increase the internal temperature, so keeping them static or off might help. Also, make sure the router has enough space for airflow, especially if it is managing a mesh network. If these steps do not help, you will likely have to wait for a newer firmware update that addresses the DHCPv6-PD compatibility with your bridge modem. Sharing your ISP name and modem model could help the TP-Link team investigate further

  @Vendex

Thank you for your reply.

The IPv6 is now working properly in harmonie with the modem. It was an issue that the IPv6 server and DNS was not properly passing through and reaching the devices. Hereby i was experiencing sometimes lag and buffer with IPv6 on.

I will continue to look but for now everything is working fine.

Greetings,

Hi  @Vendex,

One question, is the GE800 archer V1 supporting PD-DCHPv6 and for prefix delegations: /48 /56 /64 or the whole range?

Please let me know how i can confirm it.

Thank you in advance.

  @Zeryoung yes, the archer GE800 V1 fully supports DHCPv6-PD. Regarding the prefix length, it is designed to handle /48, /56, and /64 delegations, which are the industry standards used by most ISPs.

To confirm exactly what prefix length your router is receiving from your ISP, you can check it here:

  1. Log into the web interface (tplinkwifi.net).

  2. Go to Advanced > Network > IPv6.

  3. Look at the "IPv6 Status" section once the connection is established.

  4. Under prefix, you will see the delegated range (/56 or /64) assigned to your WAN interface.

If your ISP requires a specific manual prefix hint, you can usually find this setting under the IPv6 WAN configurations, but in "Auto" mode, the GE800 should negotiate the range automatically
