Model: Deco XE75
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.2.14 Build 20241015 Rel. 45922

Good Morning.

I've just installed a network mesh system with 3 TP-Link Deco XE75's (set-up in router configuation), and a single Deco X50 outdoor unit. It is connected to an Xfinity modem, (formerly an Xfinity network, but have enabled the Xfinity in "Bridge Mode" and disabled it's wireless network). Our main floor unit is setup as the router with a downstairs unit connected via wireless and the upstairs unit connected via ethernet, (Ethernet Backhaul) through a TP-Link 5-port unmanaged network switch (hub).

I've configured a 5GHz wireless mesh network and seperate 2.4GHz wireless mesh "IoT" network.

Issue #1...

I've got a monitored CCTV home alarm system with cameras and an SVT that was originally connected to the Xfinity modem/router via ethernet, (TP-Link Community here won't allow me to mention the name of the system"). It worked just fine when connected to the Xfinity router. When I connect the system directly into one of the ports on the Deco "Router" unit, the network doesn't recognize the SVT system at all. No "connection" notification on the Deco app and nothing shows up in my client list on the app for any of the Deco units.

Issue #2...

My wife works from home. Our home office is upstairs next to the "Backhaul" connected unit. Both our home computer and her work computer are connected via ethernet through the 5-port switch. Our home computer booted right up and automatically connected through the ethernet connection to a 5G connection and works fine. My wifes laptop though booted up and connected through the ethernet connection but as a 2.4GHz IoT connection. She has internet access but routinely uses TEAMS and other high bandwidth platforms with her work which I'm worried may not do well with a 2.4G connection. I have not been able to figure out how to make her laptop connect to the 5G network like our home PC did.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why my alarm system SVT won't connect to the Deco Router or how to make this happen?

Does anyone have any ideas why my wifes computer is making a 2.4G IoT connection and not the 5G connection?

Does anyone have any ideas how I can manually configure my wifes laptop to make a 5G connection?

Thanks for your kind assistance!

~Dave

  @DaveGled61 Hi, welcome to the community.

Is the current network topology like:

(The black wire means Ethernet cable, while the green dotted line is WiFi)

Can I have the model number of the 5-port network switch?

For the "CCTV alarm systems SVT", if it didn't show up in the "Online List", does it have internet access from Deco?

"Our home computer booted right up and automatically connected through the Ethernet connection to a 5G connection and works fine. My wife's laptop though booted up and connected through the Ethernet connection but as a 2.4GHz IoT connection."

Do you mean the "Connection Type" on the Deco APP said the Home Computer is on 5GHz while your wife's laptop is on 2.4GHz?

If they were both connected to the switch via Ethernet cables, their connection type should also be "Ethernet/Wired".

Could you please refer to this link to submit the Deco APP log:How to submit Deco APP log

Please also make sure the Deco APP is up to date.

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

  @David-TP

Good morning and thank you for taking the time to respond so quickly.

Your network topology is spot on with the exception that there is also a satellite outdoor unit, (Deco X50-Outdoor) wirelessly connected to the main Deco 75. I've no issues with that though.

I've attached a screen shot of the current network configuration as it shows up on my iPhone's Deco App. The "Main XE75" is named "Kitchen". The XE50 is "Back Yard". The one wireless satellite XE75 is "Basement" and the second satellite (back hauled), is the "Office" unit.

Below is the "Connected Clients" list for the Main Deco XE75.

The redacted client is my wifes laptop, (apologize for the redaction but her laptop is sensative), which as you can see shows up as "wired". To answer your question of what I meant by "My wifes laptop shows up as an ethernet connection but as a 2.4GHz IoT connection", I was referring to the network connections on her laptop. On our home computer, when I open the network connections on that computer, it is showing up as an ethernet connection to a 5G network. When I open up the network connections on her laptop, it shows her network connection as an ethernet connection to "2.4GHz IoT". I am unfortunately at work and not at home where I could actually take a screen shot of those connections for you. I can do so tonight if seeing them will help you.

Also, please note the SVT isn't showing up at all in the "connected clients" list as you can see. It doesn't appear to be receiving any internet connections as all my camera's show up as "offline" when I go the alarm dot com app to see if they're working...

Prior to my setting up the mesh system, the SVT's ethernet connection was plugged directly into the Xfinity router. Once I set up the mesh system and enabled it in "bridge mode" on my Xfinity router, the SVT was plugged directly into the new router, the "Main Deco XE75", where it isn't even being recognized. FYI, the "Axxxx.com kitchen camera" showing up that is wired is NOT part of our CCTV system in question. it's a separate camera I've just plugged directly into the Main Deco unit.

I'll get you the information on the switch make/model number tonight as well as screen shots of home computer network settings and laptop network settings.

Thanks again for your time.

  @DaveGled61

Hi, thank you very much for the update.

I'll wait for the following screenshots:

On our home computer, when I open the network connections on that computer, it is showing up as an ethernet connection to a 5G network. When I open up the network connections on her laptop, it shows her network connection as an ethernet connection to "2.4GHz IoT".

For the CCTV SVT system, have you even configured status IP settings on the device?

If not, does it make any difference if we temporarily plug it behind the 5-port switch?

Thanks a lot.

Wait for your reply.

  @DaveGled61

I tried to send you a reply. I had all your questions answered with detailed pics but it wouldn't let me send it. Imkept getting the message "Content or title contains external links".    I went back through and bkacked out all logos of the nerwork switch and there was absolutely NO mention of other websites or other companies. Not sure what the issue is but this community is making extremely difficult to get assistance if I can't post pics or screenshots...
