So my goal is rather simple. I also want to access the cameras that are in my local Wi-Fi from the outside. So in other words from a 5G network or another Wi-Fi somewhere in the world. The problem is that whenever I try this, all cameras that are in the Wi-Fi are shown offline. So I tried tailscale. I tried even Avahi-daemon. But it still shows as offline and I'm just wondering how I can see them and get notifications once I'm via VPN in the local area network at home.

So I'm using tailscale and it works with everything else, but something is within those cameras that just keeps them show up as offline. So the only way they worked so far was if I actually was in the same Wi-Fi. And obviously that makes outside surveillance complicated. So I wonder what do I need to know to make this work with tailscale or other options?

Hi,
1. Typically, after configuring the camera, if the camera is connected to the internet and our cloud server, you can control it remotely in the Tapo app, without a VPN connection required. In your situation, is the camera connected to a Wi-Fi without an internet connection, or have you blocked internet from your router for the camera? If so, why do you block the internet to the camera?

2. When your phone connects to the local network remotely via VPN, is the IP address it obtains in a different network segment from the camera's? Can the phone ping the camera's IP address?

3. If you only want to stream the camera's live feed remotely, try the following instructions.

How to View Your Tapo Camera Remotely via RTSP/ONVIF

By the way, the camera's notification feature works only after it connects to the internet.

Best Regards
