Model: Deco X55
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.7.1

I have a Deco X55 with Ethernet backhaul, running in router mode. A few days ago I noticed it had updated to the new 1.7.1 firmware. Since then, I’ve had many problems with the two satellite Deco units. Frequently they show a red flashing light, and users complain of slow or intermittent connection. Even while this is happening, the Deco app shows that everything is OK and all devices are online.

I have tried power-cycling the entire network and this fixes the problem for a few hours, then it comes back. The main Deco next to the modem is always green and has no problem connecting; it’s just the satellite units that have issues.

I have tried all the usual things such as changing the sockets the network cables are plugged into, and swapping the satellite units over - the red flashing light always comes back after some time. It’s almost as if the Decos are running out of memory or something. Is there a bug in this latest firmware? Is there a way to downgrade to the previous firmware?

Hi, thank you very much for the feedback.

Did you use any network switch for the Ethernet Backhaul? If yes, can I have its model number?

How often would you run into the following issues:

Frequently, they show a red flashing light, and users complain of slow or intermittent connection.

On the Deco APP, you can find the IP address of the satellite Deco X55s. When their LEDs turn flashing red again, could you please log into the web admin UI via their individual IPs and help me save the system log: Deco web interface login

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

There is no network switch in the way of the backhaul; just 3 Ethernet cables connecting the Decos together.

I did notice that when the red flashing light comes up, only wireless clients (and the Deco itself) lose connection. All wired devices that are plugged in retain their connection and can be used as normal. The issue was occurring frequently, every hour or so.

After swapping over the Study and Hallway Decos, everything seems to be working again with no dropouts.

As the saying goes “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” so I don’t want to move anything else around or try beta firmware at present. I will definitely keep an eye on them over the coming days, and if the issue should happen again, will get in touch to post logs.
