Over the past few weeks now, I have had trouble staying connected to my company's VPN when working from home. This issue only started recently. I am able to connect but then it pretty constantly disconnects and reconnects. Sometimes, my wifi goes out entirely. I don't seem to be experiencing much issues when I am not on the VPN. Has anyone had this issue? Additionally, when looking for a potential solution, I found the logs (shown below) to be pretty all over the place. Could this be part of the issue?

Hi,

The section from the System Log you posted only tells us that the indicator light for the "LAN" ports is switching ON and OFF.

This should only happen if an Ethernet cable that is connected to one of the LAN ports (LAN1 to LAN 4) is repeatedly loosing its connection.

Can you please re-check that these "Led Controller INFO [746] Start to run LAN_ON / OFF" only happen when you are connected via the VPN?

It would be very weird if those messages only appeared when you are connected to the VPN.

In case you see these messages all the time, no matter if connected to the VPN or not, then I recommend you replace the Ethernet cable you are using.

If there is currently more than one Ethernet cable connected to the four LAN ports, then you will have to find out which one is triggering the LAN_ON / LAN_OFF messages.

  @woozle

these messages do not appear just when on the VPN - they seem to appear constantly.

Regardless, the VPN issue persists.

Ok. Do you know if your company's VPN software was updated recently, around the time when the problems started?

@woozle No they haven't. I had a few conversations with them today about it. Additionally, my ability to access the VPN without disconnects still works in other networks, such as at a friend's home.

@tdhuff0803 Are you connecting to VPN using Archer AX1800  VPN client? (that is, if it has one)

@GlaisneWalsh I don't use any VPN feature on the router itself. I connect to the company's VPN via a downloaded application (similar to how one would connect to like a NordVPN).

Most likely these logs are part of the issue - check this thread for details on these logs.

Try the suggestions there and make sure that your AX1800 is with the latest FW release.

If that's a FW issue it may have been fixed in the latest FW release for your router model.

Hello @tdhuff0803 ,

Thanks for contacting our community.

So, you're only experiencing instability when trying to access your company's VPN? Are other network activities normally? Please compare accessing your company's VPN from different clients. Can you access the company's VPN stably?

If possible, please try to access your company's VPN from a different network.

On the router, please try to change DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, referring to How to Change the DNS servers?

@Joseph-TP the instability only happens on my home network when trying to connect to the VPN. Off of the VPN, the internet connection works normally. I have tried to connect to the VPN on other networks (at a friend's house for instance) and everything works fine. Just my home network is causing the issues.

@terziyski thank you for forwarding! I followed the same steps and the issue persists. It appears that that thread also was not fully resolved (never determined the actual root cause). Are there any other suggestions?
