Archer BE230_V1/V1.20
Archer AX55_V1
Archer AX55 Pro _V1
Archer AX72_V1
Archer AX72 Pro_V1

Phenomenon:

Some users have reported performance degradation in their routers after enabling QoS following a firmware update.

Specifically, Bufferbloat test scores for both wireless and wired clients have significantly decreased (e.g., from A/B to F). Serbian_Fantom mentioned this unexpected behavior here.
Additionally, a noticeable increase in upload latency may occur, resulting in higher latency and jitter when the network is under heavy load.
Disabling QoS can resolve the performance degradation described above.
We have identified the cause of these unexpected behaviors. Please take a look at the following feasible solutions.

Available Solutions:

Solution 1:

Our development team has provided the following beta firmware to address this unexpected behavior for the models that have already been reported. Please install the beta firmware for your router if you encounter this anomaly.

Model Direct Download Links
Archer BE230_V1/V1.20 Archer BE230_V1/1.20_1.2.1 Build 20250821(Beta Firmware)
Archer AX55_V1 Archer AX55_V1_1.3.5 Build 20250918(Beta Firmware)
Archer AX55 Pro_V1 Archer AX55 Pro_V1_1.4.3 Build 20251202(Beta Firmware)
Archer AX72_V1 Archer AX72_V1_1.4.1 Build 20250918(Beta Firmware)
Archer AX72 Pro_V1 Archer AX72 Pro_V1_1.4.1 Build 20250918(Beta Firmware)

Note:

Solution 2:

If you don't want to try the beta firmware, you can temporarily disable the QoS feature.

We welcome you to share your experiences with the beta firmware. If the beta firmware doesn't help, please provide details on your router's current operation and any other relevant information. Like the complete network topology, specific exception details, when the problem started, etc.

What if your router model isn't among those mentioned above, but you've also experienced unexpected bufferbloat and high latency after enabling the QoS feature during firmware updates?  Please provide your router model, including firmware and hardware versions, for reference: How to find the hardware and firmware version of my TP-Link device?

Thank you for your feedback and support.

Hello @SilenceOfAura ,

Welcome to our community.

What are the current hardware and firmware versions of your router?

By the way, is it a new router? Does this anomaly occur after the firmware update?

If possible, please disable QoS to try.

Best Regards.

Hardware: Archer BE400 v1.0
Firmware: 1.0.9 Build 20250417 rel.46306(5553)

Is it a new router? : I bought it on 5th June 2025

Does this anomaly occur after the firmware update? : Consistently regardless of Firmware Update! I have reset the router to factory defaults, I have tried QoS On and Off, I have tried setting QoS to 50% of my max speed which is 1gbps, I have tried changing ethernet cables! Currently using 26awg Cat 8 cable. I have also tried downloading official latest firmware from support website and flashing that in-case of a bad firmware on stock hardware.

If possible, please disable QoS to try: Tried many different settings with QoS to no avail and currently have it off and I usually keep it off.

No Idea if it'll be possible but would a beta firmware with SQM ("Smart Queue Management") be possible?

Hi @SilenceOfAura ,

Thanks for getting back to me.

We have not yet received any firmware release notifications regarding the addition of SQM functionality.

In your case, enabling QoS doesn't seem necessary. So, would disabling QoS restore everything to normal?

If so, please keep this setting for now. If a new firmware is detected, we recommend updating it first.

Please feel free to reply here with any updates.

  @Joseph-TP

Hey! Like I specified in my post, Wether QoS is enabled or disabled has no effect on the bufferfloat issue in my case as it doesn't seem to change anything except my speeds including when the device i run the test on is prioritized.

Hi  @SilenceOfAura ,

I'm a bit confused. This article describes the problem clearly: after a firmware update and enabling QoS, router performance degrades.

If enabling and disabling QoS makes no difference to you, then your situation is likely different.

Please provide more details about what you are experiencing. For example, is there network latency? Or is the wireless speed slow?

By the way, you can start a new thread for your case, this also helps us to follow up on your case individually.
