Model: Archer C80
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.13.15 Build 240812 Rel.53634n(4555)

I use a TP-Link Archer C80 router that has separate 2.4GHz and 5GHz SSIDs. I had bought a 2.4GHz extender from TP-Link and used it for a couple of months. It's the TL-WA855RE model.

Today I ran into an issue, only the devices (a phone and a tablet) that were connected to the extended network are no longer detecting my 5GHz network. The devices that were not connected to it are still doing fine and the 5G net also has it's regular speed on them. I can still see the 5GHz Wifis for my neighbors, just not my one. I've turned off the extender and the issue persists, this had never happened in the past few months.

So far, I've tried doing the following:

  • Reset my wifi and bluetooth settings on the devices and rebooted them.

  • Changed my 5G networks' SSID

  • I tried setting up a guest network with my router, those devices only detected the 2.4 GHz one and ignored the 5GHz one.

  • Rebooted the router

  • Turned smart connect on and then off. (it was off by default)

  • Changed channel width to 40 and channel to 36 from Auto for the 5G network

And I've made sure to always do these in an appropriate range for the router. I am not quite sure on what the issue might be here but would appreciate any insights on what I should try to do to fix this issue. Thank you very much.

Hello @had3432 ,

Welcome to our community.

Have you tried to reboot the phone and tablet? What are the models of these two clients?

Please tell me the hardware and firmware versions of your extender. How to find the hardware and firmware version of my TP-Link device

Please confirm the extender is up to date.

  @Joseph-TP

Hello, thank you for reaching out.

1. Yes, I have tried rebooting those 2 devices multiple times (A samsung s23 FE and a Redmi Pad 2. I have also tried resetting the network and wifi settings of these devices but nothing changed in either cases. Also in case this helps, my devices can still pick up 5Ghz signals of other wifi signals in their vicinity. They aren't able to identify (show on available wifi) only my wifi's 5Ghz network. The normal 2.4Ghz one from the router and the _EXT one still shows up and works fine. And the extender only supports 2.4GhZ for clarity.

2.
Firmware: 1.0.12 Build 221109 Rel.31477n (6985/8575)
Hardware: TL-WA855RE 5.0

Thanks for looking into this, I can't quite understand what might be the problem here. As devices that were never connected to the _EXT network, like my computer can still use the 5Ghz network of my WiFi just fine.
