Problems with Virgin media throttling access to Azure - is VPN the answer?

I am a software developer and I work from home. A lot of my job is working with Azure and writing applications to run in Azure. Every day I start with my laptop connected via ethernet cable to the X55 in my office and after a few hours I stop being able to access Azure. If I take the cable out then the laptop switches to wireless (I guess changes MAC address) and I can continue but after a while that stops working too.
To get around this, would setting up VPN client on the DECO system help?
