Early Access New Firmware for Archer BE900 V2 to Support Multi-WAN, DoH/DoT, EasyMesh in AP Mode and More
Hello Everyone,
We are delighted to announce the latest firmware update for the Archer BE900 V2, which introduces a range of new features, such as Multi-WAN, and several significant improvements.
We encourage all users to upgrade to the latest firmware and share your feedback with us. Your valuable opinions are crucial to our continued product improvement!
Download the update now and enjoy the new features of your router! We look forward to your experience!
New Features/Enhancements:
1. Multi-WAN
We introduced the Multi-WAN feature, enabling users with multiple internet service providers to add two or more WAN connections. This achieves two primary objectives:
(a) Ensuring network connectivity stability through seamless failover during service disruptions;
(b) Enhancing network performance by aggregating the bandwidth of two or more broadband connections via load balancing technology.
You may select Ethernet, USB Modem or USB Tethering as your backup WAN connection.

(1) Failover
Failover continuously monitors the primary network's status. Upon detecting signal loss or complete disconnection, the router automatically redirects traffic to the backup network connection, preventing application downtime.
In Failover mode, only one WAN will be activated at a time. When the primary WAN fails, its traffic will switch to the backup WAN, ensuring an uninterrupted internet connection.

(2) Load balance
Load Balance distributes network traffic across multiple WAN links to prevent overload on any single connection.
In Load Balance mode, all connected WAN links will be activated. You may configure Traffic Allocation Priority settings to intelligently distribute traffic, thereby improving network availability.

Do you know?
In Load Balance mode, you may also configure Routing Allocation rules to direct specific client traffic through particular WAN connection, thereby enabling more flexible management of your network.

2. DoH/DoT
DoH (DNS over HTTPS) and DoT (DNS over TLS) are two methods that enhance the security and privacy of DNS queries in network communications. DoH encrypts DNS queries within HTTPS traffic, making them indistinguishable from regular web traffic and difficult to monitor. DoT uses a dedicated TLS connection for DNS messages, ensuring they are secure from eavesdropping and tampering.
3. Supported built-in easy configuration of VPN
***In compliance with local regulations, the Third-party VPN feature may be restricted to specific regions.
4. EasyMesh Improvements
(a) Add support for EasyMesh in AP Mode (as a main router)
To learn more details about this feature, please refer to EasyMesh Is Available When Wi-Fi Routers Work in AP Mode as A Controller.
(b) Added support for web-based management in EasyMesh satellite mode
For instructions on this feature, please refer to How to log in the Web interface page of EasyMesh satellite router?
Firmware Download:
Before the Upgrade
(1) Please be sure you have read the Beta Test Agreement before upgrading the pre-release firmware!
(2) For the sake of insurance, it's always recommended to save a copy of the router's Backup Config file before upgrading or downgrading.
(3) This pre-release firmware for Archer BE900 V2 is available for all versions (excluding JP versions).
(4) You may follow the guide to upgrade the firmware of your router. How to Upgrade the Firmware on the TP-Link Wi-Fi Routers.

hi, I am interested in easymesh for ap mode. In Japan it's easier to have the be900 on ap mode when using SoftBank.
But why is this firmware "excluding JP" model?
What should we do if we have the jp model?

@Joseph-TP the DoT seems to function well in this release.
But when connected to the Wireguard VPN it hangs when trying to access things like a web page.
It seems like a DNS problem but I didn't see this behavioure with the GE800 (1.3.3) recently (btw. I must say, the latest GE800 release is much improved).

Hi @raven-au ,
Thanks for your feedback.
May I know if your network topology diagram is as follows:
Archer GE800—Archer BE900)))((( client devices
(Note: — stands for wired connection,)))((( stands for wireless connection )
Besides web page loading, are there other aspects of network usage affected by this lag?
Also, does it affect the entire network, or does the lag only occur when connected to the BE900?

@Joseph-TP i realised this lag when using be900 in my 5g when loading webpages and even games.

@Joseph-TP In this test I've replaced the Archer GE800 with a BE900 so the BE900 is the main router and so is also the VPN server, in both cases I have two BE900 Easymesh nodes (yes, I have three BE900s).
I didn't test any other client functionality, only remotely connecting to the main router using Wireguard VPN, this test succeeded when I had the GE800 as the main router.
Further, manually setting the DNS server to 192.168.0.1 in the Wireguard (client) configuration it worked.
The generated configuration for both BE900 and the GE800 use 10.5.5.1 buy default, GE800 worked but BE900 didn't.
Both cases fail to work if the DNS option on the router is not selected (and therefore the configuration has no DNS server set) which I suspect is not quite right either.

Hi @raven-au ,
Overall, your situation should be roughly as follows. Please feel free to add or correct any errors.
Router GE800:
Default configuration 10.5.5.1 → Works normally
Manually set DNS=192.168.0.1 → Works normally
No DNS setting → Can connect to VPN, but can only access via IP
Router BE900:
Default configuration 10.5.5.1 → Does not work
Manually set DNS=192.168.0.1 → Works normally
No DNS setting → Can connect to VPN, but can only access via IP
If convenient, please provide screenshots of your settings for a clear comparison.
