GE800 owners left in the dark?
GE800 owners left in the dark?
I have been lurking on these forums reading a lot of everyone's posts/problems for a lot of routers. It seems like every router is getting the new firmware or at least the beta with easymesh, ethernet backhaul and merging of guest/iot/mlo extension, whereas we GE800 users are still suffering with router factory resets and no form of upgrades. This is a very high-end and expensive router yet the BE series and AX series seems to be getting all of the good stuff. Currently using something else in the meantime. There hasn't even been any type of communication on the forums from the engineers, giving any sort of update which makes it that much more frustrating. What's the point of buying the top high-end routers if we are not going to be looked after?
So I guess speaking on behalf of all of us GE800 users, I politely & kindly ask the engineers for an update on when the new firmware that will give us all of these new features, that are being talked about on the forums for the other routers, be available to us? I'm pretty sure a lot of us would even be open to testing the beta out for it.

Just in case you haven't missed that, here is the latest FW release (official release from 16-th of January 2026) announcement for GE800 v1.

@terziyski This firmware is old, it's been out for several months.

TP-Link frequently releases new products, but the after-sales support — especially firmware upgrades — is very disappointing. It feels like once a new model is launched, older models are quickly neglected. I have seen this happen before with their previous high-end routers, which were eventually abandoned with minimal software updates(EASY MESH NO IMPLEMENT ON HIGH END ROUTER).
It seems that firmware upgrades are only consistently provided for selected models, while others are left behind. Based on this pattern, I would suggest selling the GE800, as it appears to be heading in the same direction — becoming another abandoned product. The GE Series does not justify its premium price. The additional USD 128 compared to the BE series does not seem reasonable given the level of support on after sales service.
TP-Link keeps releasing products with similar model numbers but different hardware revisions, which creates confusion and raises concerns about product management and long-term support. This approach does not inspire confidence in their lifecycle management.
I have encountered several issues and worked with their engineers to troubleshoot them. However, the only response provided was that feedback would be passed on and potentially addressed in a future firmware update. Given the apparent lack of commitment to upgrading the GE Series, I am not confident that these fixes will actually be delivered.
Considering these concerns, it may be better to switch to another brand that offers more reliable long-term firmware support and product management.

Hello
We have received feedback from you and other enthusiastic users regarding the Archer GE800, and we understand your expectations for its future features.
We have compiled your thoughts and reported them to the relevant departments. We are certain that we are actively monitoring the progress of new firmware and features.
The Archer GE800 still has great potential, and we plan to introduce several new features and optimize existing ones.
While I cannot provide a specific release date, please rest assured that we are actively working on this.
Before releasing new firmware and features, the relevant departments need to conduct multiple rounds of testing to ensure a stable and reliable user experience.
In short, we always prioritize user needs and aim to bring high-quality products and a better user experience to more users.
Thank you again for your understanding and support.

@Joseph-TP I don't know if you're a Tp-Link engineer or someone who is in charge of handling the forums, but I've spoken to many people who have gotten the generic response of "all of the information has been gathered and will be given to the proper department". The thing is that no one ever hears from those departments. No one has ever given us an actual update. I've spoken to so many people who have also stated that they were told a new firmware is coming out, not even referring to the whole new set of features, but the firmware for bug fixes update. From all the posts I've read this goes all the way back to last year, which is beyond several months now. The router still has great potential if like what @Jasson_Hong said, if more actual attention was paid to it instead of other newer models that come out. The other router users feel forgotten. If you put yourself in our shoes, then you will see what we're trying to say. I'm sure I speak for a lot of us that we can help with testing of the new firmware to ensure a stable and reliable release experience. Communication is key, not false promises.

@Jasson_Hong I have used one other brand prior to coming over to Tp-Link, I did business with them for over 20 years, but the reason I left is because they stopped caring about their customers had started to not support their products properly and wouldn't you know it, no communication.
Honestly, I have not seen much chatter on here regarding this router, so I'm trying to help get the pot stirring by trying to communicate and get an answer for all of us since no one else has asked or has not gotten any proper response. I'm trying to let them know that we are still here and would love to help in whatever way we can, but just communicate with us and give us actual timeline of when we can expect what. But if this continues I'm sure a lot of people will just sell their routers and move on and I know a lot of people that are up there that won't like this either. But that's usually what sets a company apart from the rest of the competition, listen to your consumers and their recommendations and communicate. It's really just that simple. I really hope the GE800 is not heading down that road of all is lost but if it does then, I guess let the BBB know for starters.
I agree with your hardware model number revisions that they are doing and it does create a lot confusion so that is something they definitely need to work on also. Honestly, I was pretty excited to switch from another company over to them, but so far it's been pretty rocky. It's definitely not inspiring confidence.
For the sake of us and the other GE800 users, I hope you're wrong and that they do start actively communicating with us and not leaving us in the dark and not only fix the current bugs and issues, but also give us the ability to help them refine and perfect the new upcoming updates (HOPEFULLY). Together, Tp-Link and it's consumers have the capability to perfecting the brand and a great product for the consumers. As consumers we've already extended our hand out, just waiting for the other end of the handshake.

I believe the key issue is transparency. They need to provide a clear product roadmap so users can understand what features are planned for upcoming updates and the estimated release timelines. Staying silent creates the impression that users have been abandoned.
It has already been three months since this model received a firmware update, while other BE series models are still getting beta updates. This raises concerns that the GE series may be heading in the same direction as the previous AX11000 series, where features like EasyMesh were promised but later quietly removed from the product page.
There are also examples from their existing lineup, such as the AX72 and AX73. Although the AX73 is positioned as the superior model, more attention and updates seem to be given to the AX72 instead. Overall, TP-Link does not have a strong track record in maintaining consistent long-term product support.

@Jasson_Hong To be honest besides the single message we got on this chat from I'm guessing the moderator, which that too was not helpful, we got the same kind of message that has been probably told to countless others "We have compiled your thoughts and reported them to the relevant departments".
The thing is those departments don't care to reach out or update us. What's bothersome and VERY CONCERNING is the fact that the random routers that get the update is like Russian . New or existing buyers will never truly know if their bought router will get new updates and promised features or even bug fixes.
Im actually waiting to see if I'll even get a proper response for all of us or if they will just try to bury this thread.

Hi everyone, I can confirm they do plan to release the R3 firmware that the other routers are getting to the GE800 actually pretty soon. I'm currently trying to help them iron out the current issues the router is facing and I believe they are going to try to release that bug fix firmware before they released the R3 firmware. I was personally given the name of the month that they plan to announce it here, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say anything just yet. Plus, I believe it's not really my news to share, as it should be, you should be getting this information directly from them. But I will try to keep you guys updated as soon as I know something and can share :)

Then do you have any idea when the GE550/GE650 will be getting similar updates? I believe TP-LINK released the firmware for the GE550/650 & GE800 updates together in one post previously.
Using the GE550 as a satelite with BE805 as a main.
