Adding Deco X50-POE V2 to existing X50 network disables Captive Portal
Hi there,
Got a strange one here. I have setup a network with two X50 V1 on Firmware 1.8.0 Bulld 25102213 Rel. 43070
I then configured Captive Portal on the Guest Wi-Fi and it worked fine.
I then added a X50-POE V1 to the network, latest firmware and that disabled the Captive Portal settings in the App, they just disappeared.
Thought, "maybe its the V1 its not as good" so tried with an X50-POE V2 running Firmware 1.5.0 Build 20250619 Rel. 69537
The same thing happened, it just makes the Captive Portal setting disappear from the app.
I've tried setting up the X50-POE V1 on its own and there is no setting for the Captive Portal, I have yet to try the X50-POE V2 on its own, but will see if that is the case.
Perhaps Captive Portal was removed somewhere between Firmware 1.4 and 1.5?
Thanks

Hi,
The Deco X50-PoE V1 currently does not support the Captive Portal feature on the Guest Wi-Fi, so when adding it to the Deco X50 network, the Captive Portal feature disappears.
The Deco X50-PoE V2 supports the Captive Portal feature on the Guest Wi-Fi. It's suggested to remove the X50-PoE V1 from your Deco network, then add the Deco X50-PoE V2, and test whether the Captive Portal feature works again. You can also try the X50-POE V2 on its own and test if the Captive Portal feature on the Guest Wi-Fi appears.

@Solla-topee Thanks for your reply. However I already removed the X50-POE V1 and tried with a X50-POE V2 as I already mentioned in my original post.
I'll try the V2 on its own in a test environment and report back.

Main Deco Network: Access Point Mode
- X50 V1 - Primary
- X50 V1 - Satellite (Wired)
- X50-POE-V2 - Satellite (Wired POE)
Upon removing the X50-POE-V2 from the Main network:
- Guest Network Captive Portal options not showing in Guest Network settings
- Rebooting Main network restores captive portal options to Guest Network settings.
- Captive portal working
Setup X50-POE-V2 as test Network:
- After initial setup Test network is in Router mode
- Guest Network setup shows Captive Portal Options on Test network
- After switching Test network to Access Point mode, Captive Portal Options disappear from X50-POE-V2
- Switching back to Router mode, restores Captive Portal Option.
Removed Test network and added the X50-POE-V2 back to main network (Access Point Mode)
- After adding X50-POE-V2 to main network Captive portal options disappeared again from Guest Network Settings
- Rebooted Main Network (all devices)
- Captive portal options still missing from Guest Network settings.
Set Main network to Router mode
- With 2 x X50 V1 and 1 x X50-POE V2
- Change setting for main network in Advanced from Access point to Router mode.
- Once network had restarted in Router mode Captive Portal option was available in Guest Network.
Conclusion:
X50 V1:
- Captive Portal works in Router Mode
- Captive Portal works in Access Point Mode
- Captive Portal stops working in Access Point mode if X50-POE-V2 added to network
X50-POE V2:
- Captive Portal works in Router mode
- Captive Portal does not work in Access Point Mode
- Joining device to existing X50 network where Captive Portal working in Access Point mode will stop Captive Portal working.
Hope this helps

I have been advised by support that Captive Portal will not function in Access Point mode, and you will need to use Router mode to access this feature.
Which is very strange as Captive Portal works fine on the X50 (non-POE) in Access Point mode.

Update:
While testing stuff today, I connected to my guest network, and guess what? It sent me to the captive portal after I connected.
So, even though the Captive portal settings are not available in the App, and even though my Deco network is set to Access Point mode, the Captive portal is still active.
