Model: Deco BE25
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.7

Hello,

Looking for some debugging help. This is NOT an anti-Deco rant, I love my Decos.

I have fiber internet, it comes into an ISP provided box that is a combo fiber box with WiFi.

I had an X60 3-node mesh attached to the ISP box via Ethernet cable, and used the X60s for access for all my devices.

About two months ago, the X60's started red-lighting 1-2 times per day. As best I could tell, the fiber router was functioning, but the X60's had no internet connectivity. The only restoration function that seemed to work was to reboot the fiber router.

After tolerating this for a bit, I decided to upgrade the X60 mesh to BE25, despite the fact that the problem seems likely to be in the ISP router.

BE25 upgrade was smooth no issues.

The intermittent red-light condition is less frequent, perhaps every other day, same reboot of ISP router fixes it (FYI I replaced the Ethernet connection cable using the one that came with the BE25s).

At this point, I am thinking I need to suffer thru speaking to the Internet provider for firmware update or modem replacement, which will be a huge hassle of a conversation, as are all discussions with this company.

But I am hoping the community can give me a few debugging tips that might help me guide the conversation to a good conclusion.

Logs or traces I can run to track this kind of failure?

Thanks,

Mark

The solid red light on your main Deco indicates that the Internet is not available. Before contacting your ISP, please try the following troubleshooting steps to help isolate and potentially resolve the issue:

Basic troubleshooting:
1. Check the Internet status of your ISP by connecting a PC directly into your ISP fiber router/modem to confirm it's working properly when the Deco shows red.
2. Reboot both the ISP modem and the main Deco unit.
3. Try using a different Ethernet port on the main Deco to connect to your ISP router.

DNS Configuration:
Make sure your phone is connected to the Deco Wi-Fi network, open the Deco app, go to MORE > Internet Connection > tap 'IPv4 Connection' > DNS Address. Select 'Manual' and input '8.8.8.8' and '1.1.1.1' as the primary and secondary DNS servers.

MAC Clone (if needed):
If your PC has Internet when connected directly to the ISP router while the main Deco doesn't, a MAC Clone might help. Please refer to this article for configuring MAC Clone on Deco: https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/faq/2925/

Additional settings to check:
1. On the Deco app, go to MORE > Advanced > IPTV/VLAN. If the IPTV port is enabled, make sure you're not using it to connect to your ISP modem.
2. Go to MORE > Advanced > WAN Port. If this feature is enabled, make sure you are using the correct Ethernet port on the Deco to connect to your ISP modem.

If the issue still persists after trying these steps, please reply back to this post

Thanks

  @HelpFixDecoApp

Thank you for these tips, which I studied carefully.

After walking thru your steps, I determined my BE25 might be cabled using its Wan port 2, although these are not physically numbered on the unit.

so I downloaded the .99 beta with the "fixed wan port", upgraded the BE25s ( no issues), moved the Ethernet cable to port 1, and used the "wan port" control in the app to lock in port 1.

Now I am waiting to see what happens.

Good morning.

Today I got a good capture of this red light scenario, syslog attached. Appreciate if the syslog can be analyzed and some advice given on likely cause. The red light scenario seems to start around 06:35 syslog time.

recap:

I was experiencing frequent red lights on my 3-node X60, which is attached to Internet router provided by ISP using Ethernet cable. I do not have userid access to the ISP router, which is a Huawei fiber router.

I upgraded the X60s to BE25's and loaded the .99 firmware. I used the "fixed wan port" feature to lock in port 1.

Since those changes, red lights still occur but less frequently.

Thank you!

Mark
