Model: Deco S4
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.4.3 Build 20200918 Rel. 77820

Hi,

House is 3 stories high. One deco is on each floor. The main deco connected to the internet is at the bottom of the house.

For whatever reason, the deco at the top of the house keeps connecting to the deco at the bottom of the house. There is no way to change this in the software. Can this feature please be added?

It was my understanding that the one at the top should be connecting to the one in the middle and then the middle one to the downstairs, but that doesn't seem to be happening. The deco in the middle has an extra bar of signal to the main vs the one at the top so I suspect this is causing some slowing / bottlenecking.

Any solutions?

Update:

Hi, The official firmware doesn't support setting connection preference yet but you can install the beta firmware here:

Thank you very much and best regards.

@SMAB

Hi,  this issue would be improved by the later firmware upgrade.

Currently, have you tried to power off the main Deco for a while, leave the two satellite Decos only and then power back the main Deco back to see if that helped?

Thank you very much and wait for your reply.

@TP-Link

Hi,

Yes tried that, still connecting to downstairs.

Do you have an ETA on the firmware upgrade? I've saw a lot of other threads having the same issue

@SMAB

I have this same problem with my S4 network.

This seems such a basic function of a MESH network, that I am surprised it doesn't work like that!

@Vanellus

It such a strange oversight on a basic feature to me.

I don't understand how you can even miss it. The UI is designed in such a way that you can see what each node is connected to that visually responds to clicks but has no functionality? Almost feels deliberate.

@SMAB Seems like a basic feature that the deco should connect to the nearest deco instead of the main deco which is a football field away from the 3rd satelite unit.  Is there a firmware upgrade or beta for this?
