TL-WR841ND v7 and TL-WR840N v6 Repeater mode issue
TL-WR841ND v7 and TL-WR840N v6 Repeater mode issue
HI,
I have an issue with my tplink wireless router when i set it as repeater
I put the wifi router in the same place and try to connect to a wireless network with setrength of 55-60 about 20 25m away
the wr840n v6 connects well and gives me working connection
the wr841nd v 7 doesn't give me a working connection, although the router sees the same wifi network with same strength
latest update for 841nd version is 2012 and 840n v6 latest update is 2022
is it related to firmware or what is the problem ? I want also to mention that the old 841nd router works well as a repeater with the very near wifi networks
it gives me as you see unidentified network, even when i fill in manually the ip adress and the dns settings it doesn't recongnize network

Hi,
Does the TL-WR841ND v7 support the same type of "repeater mode" as the TL-WR840N v6 or does the TL-WR841ND v7 actually support "WDS"? WDS is known to have compatibility issues.
Could you perhaps post a screenshot that shows the available repeater options that you see on the TL-WR841ND v7?

The old 841nd support wds and have old software
The wr840 does support new 2022 software and quick setting in router has repeater mode added

Ok, I see.
So, that must be the reason why the TL-WR841ND v7 behaves different than the TL-WR840N v6.
Even though WDS and "Range Extender mode" serve similar purposes, they are not the same thing.
For WDS to work both ends have to support it. In your case it looks like the Wi-Fi router (the one that's 25m away) you are trying to connect to either doesn't support WDS at all or doesn't support it properly and that's why you get no working connection.
The "Range Extender" mode of the TL-WR840N v6 works differently and doesn't require special support from the Wi-Fi network it is connecting to.

To solve the problem you would have to replace the TL-WR841ND v7 with another device that has a regular "Range Extender" mode that works in combination with any Wi-Fi router.

Do you mean if you reduce the distance between the TL-WR841ND v7 and the Huawei Echolife, then you can successully establish a network connection?
Well, if that was the case, then you need to place the TL-WR841ND v7 at a location that is nearer to the Huawei router. There is nothing else that could be done.

i didn't say increase wireless range, I mean when i connect to a nearby network with good signal my router works as a repeater, in fact when i do that it doesn't work it gives me no connection
the network is near and when i do connect using wds it doesn't give me a working internet connection
