Model: Archer BE800   Archer BE550
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.6 Build 20240711 rel.7893(5553)

Note: I just updated to the 1.1.6 but I was on 1.1.5 with the same issue.

I've set up WiFi using BE800 as the main router and BE550 as an EasyMesh node at the other end of the houe. They're connected with CAT7 Ethernet backhaul (about 15m away and a couple of thick walls between them).

That said, there's a very large overlap between the devices' coverage. There's not a single spot in the house where if I stay still I get below 200Mbps and most places I get 500-1200Mbps easily on speedtest.net (I have a 5Gbps connection).

All and and all, the devices give pretty decent WiFi, as long as I stay still.

If I move between rooms and the client needs to roam, there's about 5s without network which causes calls to disconnect many times. That means I can't take meetings or important calls if I walk around the house.

The devices are properly set up I believe. I see the BE550 as a node of the BE800.

Why can't I get roaming to work properly? I'm using iPhone 15 Pro Max as a test device which should support all the latest and greatest standards (well, WiFi 6E, not 7 but still).

I'm connected to the 2.4GHz/5Ghz band (Smart Connect enabled).

Hi, thanks for posting question here.

We may need to collect more information to understand your situation better.

1. Which wifi band is your iPhone 15 Pro Max connected to? 6GHz?  If your iPhone 15 Pro Max is connected to 2.4GHz/5GHz (Smart Connect enabled or not),does the same issue remains?

2. Do you have other phones/PC, it is suggested to do the same test, to check whether the issue happens on which wifi band, or only on your iPhone 15 Pro Max. Please share the model and OS of your phones/PC as well.

3. How about your network settings? Smart Connect is enabled and another 6GHz wifi band with different wifi name, right?

4. The last but most important point, every time the issue happens, are your iPhone 15 Pro Max or other clients connected to which router?  Archer BE800 or Archer BE550? You may confirm on Tether app or Web UI.

  @Marvin_S

Hi, thank you for your reply.

1. Which wifi band is your iPhone 15 Pro Max connected to? As I mentioned 2.4GHz/5GHz combo band.

2. The issue reproduces for the Macbook Pro 14 M3 M*x I have as well (sorry for the censore, turns out max followed by an I is improper language lol).

3. How about your network settings? Smart Connect is enabled and another 6GHz wifi band with different wifi name, right? Yes, exactly as I said, and I'm connected to the 2.4/5GHz SSID.

4. The last but most important point, every time the issue happens, are your iPhone 15 Pro Max or other clients connected to which router? The issue happens when migrating between the devices. Moving from the room with the BE800 to the room with the BE550 and vise versa. As I mentioned there's a large overlap between the covered areas so there are no dead zones to cause this disconnect.

Hi, thanks for your update~

It seems that roaming timed out or failed when you are walking back and forth between main router and satellite.

Can you share your house pan and note the exact location of the routers? Then we can take further analysis.

  @Marvin_S Sorry for the delay.

Here's a screenshot I took from my vacuum cleaner and added the locations of the routers.

Also included some measurements.

The BE800 is ofc the main router and the BE550 is the node.

The entire coridor has coverage from both routers so don't think the range is an issue.

I updated to the latest firmware that the BE550 suggested but the issue still occurs.

Reproduced it just now (around 20:43 I think). I took logs from the router interface.
