Model: Deco M4
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I have a system containing 7 Deco units (3 x M5 and 4 x M4R) - picture attached.

Two of the M4R Deco units were recently added ("Living Room" and "Poarta" from the picture). I bought them as a pack of 2 units.

Both "Living Room" and "Poarta" are:

  • connected in Port 1 via Ethernet cable to a TP-Link Switch, which is connected to Main Unit
  • Connected to Internet (led on top is white)
  • Have other devices connected in Port 2 successfully connected to Internet

Even so, they appear as Offline in the Deco app as in the picture and no other devices are connected via wireless to those units. This is a problem because I have some devices in very close proximity to those 2 units, which are trying to connect to much farther units since those 2 are not visible.

I tried to swap places between these 2 units and other units that are always working, but it seems the problem is always following those 2 units.

All units are up-do date in terms of latest SW.

I also tried all steps indicated in the app to make the units visible (refreshing the app, closing the app, including re-installing the units from factory settings).

Please support. I can provide any needed info as long as we manage to fix this problem.

Thank you.

Hi, Welcome to the community.

Could you please refer to this link to help me submit the Deco APP log:

How to submit Deco APP log

Is your current topology like:

How about the model number of the TP-link switch here?

Did Deco work in Wireless Router mode or Access Point mode?

Thank you very much and best regards.

Deco App log is in TKID240847851.

Current topology attached.

Switches used (2 of them connected directly to Main Deco): Switch D-Link DGS-108GL, 8-Port Gigabit

Deco is in Wireless Router Mode

  @Mihai-N

Hi, thank you very much for the APP logs.

I adjust the network topology a little bit:

Are you able to replace the D-Link switch with another brand?

-The Deco Ethernet backhaul feature is based on the standard IEEE 1905.1 protocol. However, we find that some switches, mainly the D-Link switches, will not forward packets based on IEEE 1905.1 protocol.(For more details, please refer to General Questions About the Ethernet Backhaul Feature on Deco Mesh Systems - Q6+Q5)

I did notice you mentioned earlier that:

"I tried to swap places between these 2 units and other units that are always working, but it seems the problem is always following those 2 units."

- Do you mean, if "living room" and "Porata" were replaced with "Kitchen" and "outside Wood" Deco(so now they are on Wi-Fi Backhaul, no longer on Ethernet Backhaul), they were still offlince on the Deco APP?

Another issue I found is that only one Deco M4(I believe its MAC address is 5091xxxxxxxx, Living Room Deco or Poarta) should be a newly added Deco since its first once time is quite newer than the rest of M4 units. Could you please help me double check this detail?

- If yes, could you please help me run a simple test:

Temporarily remove the switch from the main Deco M5 "Camera Technica" and connect the "Living Room" M4 via an Ethernet cable directly to the main M5 to see whether it will display online on the Deco APP.

Thanks again and best regards.

  @David-TP

I am trying to partially answer your questions. And thanks a lot for support, btw :)

The diagram you created is correct with one small adjustment. "Poarta" si connected into a separate TP-Link switch which is connected into the first TP-Link Switch. Both of them are identical.

Second point.. If I connect one of the "not working" Decos directly into the main one, I have to use the only remaining physical link from the Main Deco (the other one is connected to Internet supplier device), which means my whole network will only have 2 Decos. I suppose that will work fine.

You are right, "Poarta" is the last Deco I added and one week before that I added "Living Room". All of the rest are present in the network since long time ago.

Also, you are right, I tried to swap Decos between locations, same 2 had the same problem regardless if they are connected Wireless or wired through Tp-Link.

Also Bedroom is connected to the same switch and does not seem to have this problem.

Thank you,

Mihai
