Should I download this Firmware ??

Model: TL-WR802N
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 0.9.1 3.17 v0348.0 Build 200421 Rel.38950n

This is an older wifi device.

Im having problems because its version it seems of security is outdated. Browsers don't like it so I cant login using https. I have enabled it in the web interface using port 443.

So I look for an update to firmware.

When I look at the Canadian site there is no firmware available.

Here is the link. Download for TL-WR802N | TP-Link Canada

However the US site shows and  update. Should I use the US firmware update ?? I dont want to brick my device.

US Site.

Download for TL-WR802N | TP-Link

Thank you.

@KdKd Personal experience here. Please don't take it as an advice.

I've updated a non-US router with US firmware, and no problem at all.

There was a warning in tp link page for that router saying suggesting it was not advisable for example to install a US firmware in a EU product, because hardware is different.

In your case, considering it's in the same continent (North America), you should be safe.

But to be sure, it's best to contact your local TP-Link support to be sure.

@JulesSanshiro Thanks. That makes some sense. (Sadly) USA and Canada are seen as the same entity often in various areas.

Thanks.

While I would not want to loose this little device if it bricks so be it, built in obselesnce.

Thanks

Re:Should I download this Firmware ??

@KdKd  So I have updated the firmware It worked. I now have

Firmware Version:0.9.1 3.17 v0348.0 Build 241231 Rel.42734n

Hardware Version:TL-WR802N v4 00000004

HOWEVER this did not fix the issue of being able to use https. Very strange as  still only allows me to log in as http not https.

Thank you however it worked.

Hello @KdKd ,

Welcome to our community.

For your case, I think you can refer to the suggestions of the FAQ:

Why TP-Link HTTPS web interface is detected as unsecure by some web browsers?

Best Regards.

  @KdKd

Hi,

I have a TL-WR702N and a TL-WR902AC here, which are very similar. I checked on both and neither supports HTTPS for accessing their management webpage. So I think the same applies for your TL-WR802N. Or can you see anything in the router menu of your TL-WR802N that hints to HTTPS being an option?

Given how old these router models are, I doubt TP-Link is going to put in the effort to add HTTPS in a future firmware update.
