Hi.  I have a new LB120 bulb and the IOS Kasa app is telling me it needs a firmware update.  However, every time I try the update it fails.

 

Updates work fine with smart plugs on the same app.  

 

Is there another way to update the bulb outside of the Kasa app?

Can you try to use another device to download Kasa APP and upgrade the firmware for a try?

Hi.

 

The current firmware is version 1.2.3 - Kasa wants to update to version 1.8.6.

 

I have tried the Kasa app and update on an android device but the update fails there as well.

Have you tired to reset it and redo the configuration, it seems you encountered a quite strange issue

I am having the same issue.. I have reset the bulb, I have tried forwarding port 9999 to the buld which I saw in another post but still it will not update the firmware.. Message I get is "Update Not Complete, One or mre devices failed to update. Please try the update again".. No matter how many times I try it will not update..

 

Current firmware is 1.2.1 and the version it is trying to update to is 1.8.6.

Hi, 

You can try to update the firmware manually. Please have a windows computer to follow the instructions:


1.Make Sure the computer and the smart plug are connected to the same router/modem.
2.Donwload the firmware  https://static.tp-link.com/2018/201812/20181221/iotUpgradeTool_V1.3.zip  to the computer and extract it
3.Click and run the main.exe
4.Click scan button to find the devices on your local network(may click again if your device is not found)
5.Select your device by click it in the devices list box
6.Click upgrade button to start the upgrade procedure
7.The upgrade result will shown in the below log window and progress bar
