Model: HS220
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: various

I have (3) HS200, (4) HS220 & (1) HS210 switches linked to my ASUS AX6000 router. The switches periodically loose connection to my router. They all connect to my router but not all at the same time. The following are my router & switch details:

Router ASUS AX6000

  • Authentication - WPA2-Personal
  • Enable 802.11ax mode - Off
  • Smart Connect - Off
  • Auto Select Channel(Including DFS Channels) - Currently on but nothing changed when it was off
  • I also limited the bandwidth for all switches to 20Mbps up & down

Switches:

  • (BP) HS200 - Software 1.5.7 - Hardware 2.0
  • (KR) HS220 - Software 1.5.11 - Hardware 1.0
  • (KF) HS210 - Software 1.5.8 - Hardware 1.0
  • (LRR) HS220 -  Software 1.5.11 - Hardware 1.0
  • (LRC) HS220 - Software 1.5.11 - Hardware 1.0
  • (OR) HS220 - Software 1.5.11 - Hardware 1.0
  • (OF) HS200 - Software 1.1.5 - Hardware 3.0
  • (FP) HS200 - Software 1.1.5 - Hardware 3.0

Hello @Search1  , thank you for your detailed post!

May I know do you have a Mesh system or single router, can you double-check the model number of your Ausus AX6000 router, thank you.

  • If it's a Mesh system, try to turn off the Mesh/ Fast roaming for smart switches, and force switch to the closest node if possible
  • Try to use different SSIDs for router and 2.4Ghz/ 5Ghz (5G use different Wi-Fi names)
  • Please make sure the camera is connected to the router directly, not trough AP or other extenders

At the same time can you help confirm some details here to locate the issue, thank you.

1. LED status on switch when the issue happens, it Red/ Flashing Green etc.

2. How does the connection recover every time, do you need to reboot router or reboot camera or it could reconnect to router by itself?
3. How often the switches lose connection, does the issue happens on certain switch, can you check the signal strength on the switches that drops more often?

(Kasa APP, go to device  settings->tap the router wifi (Wi-Fi symbol )  see the value of the dBm)

4. May I know do the switches connect to router directly, e.g.  ASUS router model <WiFi :20 feet>HS200s

May I know did you recently update firmware of Ausus router,did the switch work stable with the same router before?

As this issue you are experiencing sounds unusual,we would like to have a specialist look into this further via email. Please check your mailbox later, and feel free to let us know how it goes. Thank you!

@Solla-topee

  1. My router is a RT-AX88U
  2. I do not have a mesh system only a stand alone router.
  3. I did not try 5Ghz. I thought the switches only supported 2.3Ghz.
  4. I Do not have a camera.
  5. When switches drop out. i receive a red led on the HS210 and blinking green on the others.
  6. How does the connection recover every time. Swithces will reconnect automatically with router.
  7.  How often the switches lose connection, does the issue happens on certain switch, can you check the signal strength on the switches that drops more often? I never noticed ((FP) HS200 -Software 1.1.5- Hardware 3.0) drop out but the rest of the switches do. The single strengths range from -33dBm to -52dBm. My guess this is not a single stength issue since all switches are on the same floor as the router.
  8. May I know do the switches connect to router directly, e.g.  ASUS router model <WiFi :20 feet>HS200s. All switches connect directly to the router.

    May I know did you recently update firmware of Ausus router,did the switch work stable with the same router before? I did recently update the firmware of the router I believe it was due to the switches not working properly.

Hello, was there a resolution to this?  I just recently changed out my ASUS RT-AC88u router for the newer ASUS RT-AX88u, the same as the one identified in this post. I have two of the dimmer switches that keep dropping from the router, but the third single-pole switch used for the fan seems to stay connected.

Router is same configuration EXCEPT:

  • Enable 802.11ax mode - ON
  • I have not limited the bandwidth

But these changes still see the same outcomes.  Any resolution?  I have the newest firmware on all devices.

@FRP

I ended up attaching an old travel route to my network and all my switches through it. This fixed my issue. However I believe if I would have changed a few settings on my AX88U I could have achieved the same outcome. Also note I had couple switches with a newer hardware  version that didn't drop out.

  @Search1 @FRP

There is some update with this issue, please check the discusstion Smart Switches Disconnecting here.

At the same time , it is recommended to reach router manufacture and see if there is any newer firmware that had fixed this issue.
