Model: Tapo L530E
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version:

After using these bulbs and other TP-Link Tapo products (namely cameras C200 and C310), I have noticed that these never try to reconnect to wifi if the wifi connection is not available or lost at any point during operation. That might happen during startup or during use.

Customer support has suggested resetting the devices and re-linking them to my TP-Link account, but that doesn't change anything. There's a flaw in the firmware of these devices making them pretty much unusable unless you're physically next to the device when you use them. Once they lose wifi for whatever reason, you need to physically power them off and power back on to make them connect to the wireless network.

This is not an issue with TP-Link Kasa plugs, so whoever made the firmware for those, good job. This only affects, most likely, the entire Tapo product line. Hopefully there will be a firmware fix in the near future.

 Hello  @maanylon

thank you for creating a new post here

Can you help provide some information here to help analyze the issue

1. Would the system LED on the camera turn Red or stay Green when it is offline

2 What is the model number of your Wi-Fi router?

How about your network topology like ISP xx-- router model <wireless>tapo L510

How to Get the Log of Tapo Camera?

Here are some tips you could try

  • Confirm smart devices firmware & APP are both up to date
  • Please confirm tapo device is receiving a good signal first, may I know what are the RSSI value on tapo camera & bulb

https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/3261/

  • Try to change router DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 &8.8.4.4
  • Check if there is any wireless advanced settings like Channel optimization, band steering settings on router if so, turn that off
  • try to connect smart device to router directly not through AP & extenders.

  @Solla-topee

1) Focusing on the bulbs, they stay on or off depending on the state on which wifi connection was lost. Camera led is disabled, it also stays disabled when wifi is lost.

2) Archer AX90 v1.0/v1.20 (1.1.6 Build 20220118 rel.72719(4555)). Same issue with Archer C9, my previous router.

Wifi signal: -44

 Hello  @maanylon

For ' these never try to reconnect to wifi if the wifi connection is not available or lost at any point during operation.'

- Do you mean the issue is 1) bulb failed to reconnect to wifi after router reboot / after Wi-Fi lost and wifi recovers; is this behavior reproducable when reboot wifi router

OR 2) bulb has unstable connection and lost internet/ Wi-Fi network ?

-When issue occurs, if connect phone to home wifi network and see if bulb is accessible on Tapo App under local network OR unreachable in the local home wifi network?

May I confirm it is AX90 router <wireless >Tapo Lb530 directly or if there is any  AP or extender connected to router?

Is the Smart Connect ON/ OFF on wifi router?  Has the bulb work fine before or issue starts since you purhcase it?

1) number 1

Connection topology:

Modem

RJ45 cable to AX90

Wireless connection to bulbs and cameras

No APs in between, no extenders.

This doesn't happen daily, but rebooting the router managed to take one of the cameras offline. Bulbs managed to reconnect after some waiting, but one camera remained offline. It is reachable when connecting phone/tablet to the wifi (it has no ip):

smart connect is enabled. bulbs and camera have had this issue ever since i bought them.

  Hello @maanylon

If tapo camera failed to reconnect to router after router reboot, try to reserve an IP address for tapo device & cameras (set up IP reservation for MAC of tapo devices) on tp-link router and see if that helps.

How to configure Address Reservation on Wi-Fi Routers (new logo)?

Also try to change router DNS to 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 , save and reboot router.

If the same, can I have a Mac address of that camera, does camera still get an IP from router after router reboot? Btw, do you need to reboot router a lot, how often does the issue happen?

>does camera still get an IP from router after router reboot?

It always gets an IP address, except when it goes "offline". The devices still get an IP address even then according to the router, but it doesn't show up in the Tapo app.

>do you need to reboot router a lot, how often does the issue happen?

Router and modem stays on 24/7 usually. Reboot is required if there's a firmware update or complete power off is needed on all devices if there's a scheduled power outage.

C200 MAC B4-B0-24-67-B1-C0

Zipped diagnose_log attached (when the camera had the described issue in the previous post) if that helps.

Does your router do 2.4 and 5.0Ghz AND they have the exact said SSID? I would try by disabling the 5.0GHZ band and see if it pairs. Then turning it back on after. Or just name the 5.0ghz band a different name so it doesn't collide
