Model: Tapo P100
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.1.5

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can clarify whether I can use my P100 smart plugs in a particular way which I don't seem to be able to work out myself.

I have 2 lamps in my living room plugged into P100s, both set to the same schedule - turn on 1hr before sunset and turn off at 11pm.

I also set the auto-off timer to 2 hours, assuming that the schedule would be dominant but that if manually switched on, the plugs would switch off after 2 hours.

Unfortunately there seems to be some clashing between the schedule and auto-off features, meaning that the lamps switch off 2 hours into the schedule instead of staying on until 11pm.

Can anyone clarify whether it is possible to get these functions to play nicely together? Essentially what I want to happen is:

Lamps turn on as scheduled

Outside of scheduled time, lamps turn off automatically after 2 hours.

If schedule begins within 2 hour auto-off timer, lamps stay on until scheduled switch off at 11pm.

I hope this makes sense and appreciate any help. This is my first foray into smart home stuff so wouldn't be surprised if I have missed something

I've come up with another method to achieve your requirement: Instead of utilizing the plug's built-in Auto-Off Timer, you can create an automation. This allows you to schedule the Auto-Off timer to operate during times that won't overlap with the daytime schedule.

The scene settings can be created as follows.
1. Plug Schedule
- Turn On, Effective time: Sunset -1hr
- Turn Off, Effective time: 23:00

2. Auto Off Timer (Automation)
- When P100 Turn On
- Then P100 Turn Off
- Delay Action: 2 hours
- Effective time: 23:00 ~ Sunset -1hr

Regarding the scenario you want to achieve, the only feasible approach at the moment is to add another Automation to turn on the plug when it turns off.

When P100 Turns Off

Then Turn On P100

Effective Time:  Sunset -1hr ~23:00

Thanks for the response. Just curious though, with the automation you suggest, wouldn't the lights stay on permanently as when they turn off as scheduled they would then turn back on until 11pm the next day, before repeating this cycle?

Sorry if I have misunderstood something different about automation, as I said this is my first smart home device

This rule only takes effect at Sunset -1hr ~23:00. The plug will be only turned on immediately when it is turned off during this period.

Thanks again for your help.

Unfortunately it looks like the Tapo P100 cannot act as a trigger device as that option is greyed out on my app, only trigger time is available to me

What's the version of your APP? Ensure your APP is updated, try to reinstall if possible.

Are you the owner of this device? Or is it a shared device?

I am on app version 2.17.112. I was not able to update but reinstalled the app, the trigger device option remains unavailable.

I am the owner and only my phone is set up to control the devices.

Hello again!

Finally got the updated app which now allows me to use the plugs as triggers for automations.

Unfortunately it hasn't quite worked out as i'd hoped. There are 2 issues with the previously suggested solution:

1. The automation doesn't occur instantaneously which means that the lights flicker off and back on again. I could possibly live with this.

2. When the plugs are turned back on by the automation, the 2hr timer resets, meaning that if the automation is triggered, the lights will then flicker off and on again every 2 hours which, heading into winter, i don't think i could tolerate.

Maybe if the automation could deactivate the auto-off timer this would be much simpler?
