Model: Tapo P110
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.3.0 Build 230905 Rel 152200

I have purchased 10 P110 Plugs with Energy Management over the last 6 months and so far I have had 4 go faulty. Three have been returned to TP-Link and replacements sent (in one case the original was returned ..I guess with some sort of reset) . The problems are with the internal relays , switching on and off repeatedly. This is likely to cause damage to any sensitive equipment attached and in my case cause food in my freezer to be wasted. I get asked stupid questions about load on the plugs when I report faults . There's not much point putting energy management on a device that draws a few milliamps . After all they are rated 13 amp 240 volts therefore Watts=VoltsxAmps=13*240=3kW ... None of my devices are rated over 2Kw.

I've used KASA plugs (with and without Energy Management) for years , and never had an issue with them. They have NEVER failed ... but these TAPO P110 fail all the time with dissasterous consequences .

What are other peoples experiences with TAPO P110 ?

  @keithh

Obviously I'm not the only one

Has ANYONE found a way to prevent or repair the incessent relay/switch failures of P100s and P110s? - Smart Home Community (tp-link.com)

I wonder if TP Link ever read how poor this product is ?

  @keithh I don't understand why they rate it at 10amp 240v when they clearly cannot survive at that power for more than a few days. I had my electric dryer on a P110 to monitor energy usage and compare to the hourly usage reported by my power company.

It lasted 2 weeks and now despite it still connecting to my phone, pairing following a reset, and clicking when I switch it on and off, it will not transfer power in the on state. The load on the dryer never exceeded 1.6kw yet the P110 is fried.

Looks like an Amazon return.

  @keithh Same issue here, I've got 4 of these and this is the 1st one to fail, owned since July 2023, I just took it in to be replaced under warranty.

Here's the issue I was having here https://photos.app.goo.gl/PvtPSi28VK4U8jrR7

  @keithh Same problem (relay continuously switching ON and OFF) with 2 from a pack of 4 purchased from Amazon UK- both had low consumption loads connected.  First one failed within the 1 year standard warranty, Second one failed just outside of the standard warranty but within the TP-Link 2 year extended warranty period.  You're dead right these devices are unreliable and too risky to use for critical applications especially remotely with the TP-Link App.  I just use mine now to do a one off consumption measurement for appliances. So really they're not much use.

  @keithh  so brought 6 of these.  Had two replaced via support at cost each time on postage and this week 2 have died doing the same.  One only had a load of 55w with a peak of 100w on start up.  The 2nd has a load of 550w with a peak of 8oow so well within the limits.

Support has been good dealing with the issues but this is my first intoduction onto the TP-Link product range and now I very much doubt il be purchaing anything again from this brand due to this problem.

Also now i have two more dead devices in warrenty do i send back for replacements?   pack of 4 cost me £35, i've spent £10 on posting the items back and if i do send these two back as least the can go toeather,  but that will still cost me £5+   so in total the pack would have cost me £50 plus for a £35 pack.   Not great and with a high risk the other to die!

In their defence I've been using TP-Link products for years (Routers, Ethernet over the mains adapters and cameras) and haven't had a single failure until buying the P110 plugs. In comparison I've also used Sonoff switches- they make loads of switches and other home automation devices- https://sonoff.tech. Their smart plugs are here https://sonoff.tech/product/smart-plugs/s60/
