Model: Tapo C500
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: Firmware Version: 1.1.4 build 240506 rel 39487n

I recently updated my Tapo C500 camera to the latest firmware and have since encountered several issues that are affecting the performance and quality of the camera:

  1. White Balance, Brightness, and Contrast Issues: After the update, the white balance, brightness, and contrast settings in the camera stream are not functioning correctly. The overall image quality has deteriorated, making it difficult to get a clear and accurate view.

  2. Degraded Image Quality: The image quality, which was previously 1080p, now appears to be similar to 720p. This reduction in resolution is noticeable and significantly impacts the usability of the camera.

  3. Increased Noise and Pixel Clusters: There is a noticeable increase in image noise and the appearance of pixel clusters, further reducing the clarity of the footage.

These issues are affecting the functionality and reliability of the Tapo C500, which was previously performing well. I would appreciate your assistance in resolving these problems as soon as possible.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response.

  @NguyenKhoi I can suggest waiting for a firmware update, or you can contact support for instructions on restoring the device's firmware, for example, to version 1.1.3 Build 231213 Rel.37124n.

Do you have more pictures for comparison? The light intensity in the two images is different. Overexposure due to strong lighting can be one of the reasons the image image appears poor.

If there are multiple devices or software streaming this camera at the same time, such as the RTSP/ONVIF apps, NVR, NAS, or other mobile devices, please stop the multi-streaming to ensure high-quality streaming on your current device.

You may try to restart the camera. Disable mobile data on your phone. Then connect phone to the same WiFi as the C500, try to view it again.

Please note the timecode. I captured these images just before and exactly after the firmware update, only a few minutes apart.
See the 1.1.3 Build 231213 Rel.37124n and 1.1.4 Build 240506 Rel.39487n folders for more comparison images (images from video recorded on the camera's SD card).

Exactly! But there was no difference in weather. This was cloudy day. What went wrong with the camera exposure settings after update ?

Alright, let's consider "overexposure due to strong lighting," but what about the video quality? Didn't anyone notice that the 1080p quality after the update looks as poor as 720p?

No other devices used this camera during testing.

These screenshots were taken from the camera while connected to the same Wi-Fi network, after several restarts.

I updated the firmware on two cameras and I'm facing the same issues: poor video quality (1080p now looks like 720p), excessive brightness and contrast, increased noise, and overly bright colors.

These problems also affect the video quality recorded on the camera's SD card.

Thankfully, I took before and after pictures before upgrading the second camera. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the deterioration in picture quality.

  @Wayne-TP

Sure, I understand. A specialist will follow up through email to resolve the current issue.
Given that it might take some time and there's no guarantee that it will improve video quality or restore previous functionality, I kindly request instructions on updating the firmware to version 1.1.3 Build 231213 Rel.37124n for the Tapo C500 V1.

One of my C500 cameras has updated to  firmware v1.1.4, the other is still on v1.1.3.

I can confirm that I have the same White Balance, Brightness, and Contrast Issues after the firmware update.

Looking at the number of people that have marked the posts as 'helpful' I suspect this is a widespread problem even though there are no further posts about it.

  @Wayne-TP

I am aware that Tapo models support firmware installation via a memory card (e.g., Tapo C200).
Therefore, I am reaching out to request the instructions and the firmware file for installation 1.1.3 Build 231213 Rel.37124n using a memory card.

Thank you.

  @tapac3 Try to check your C500's video quality. My C500 automatically sets the quality from 1080p to 720p for no reason (happened 2 times)

  @NguyenKhoi This is not the case. It was a firmware issue, which is why a recent update 1.1.4 Build 240702 Rel.40592n was released to fix this problem.

  @tapac3 My C500 is still at 1.1.4 Build 240506 Rel.39487n.

I know it's the firmware problem, causing the cam sets the quality to 720p. The recent firmware does not have this issue.
