Tapo C500 sound silent or crackling noises

I purchased a C500 around six months ago as we've been having issues with a neighbour. This used to pick up noises and sound/conversations on our drive etc. This has now stopped working and we only get intermittent cracking. Everything is up to date firmware wise etc. How do we troubleshoot? This is the same for both recordings and live viewings.
