I have a C320SW camera in my LAN where I have blocked any access to the WAN for security reasons using the Omada gateway. However, I encounter two issues:

1. The camera's clock resets when rebooted - wrong date. I may need accces to NPT ?
2. When accessing the camera through the VPN server from an external network using the app, I can toggle the privacy mode on and off successfully, indicating that some commands can be sent to the camera (trough  VPN).

However, I am unable to view the camera stream unless I use this workaround:

a. Select camera,

b. Click on Playback-Download

c. Toogle play from microSD card

d. Then reverting back (no card is inserted), and works, all functions works trough VPN.

Seems the app first attempts to connect through the cloud and stays there. So works trough VPN. Let's try to avoid this flip-flap trough menus to make it working.

Edited: After a while, still works, but after a time period the video stops, I think it is by design. To regain the video stream again you have to use again the workaround.

My preference is to avoid using the cloud and instead allow users to access privately their cameras through VPN by default or by option set.

I use ZoneMinder with zmNinja privetly trough VPN if really needed from outside.

Hi,
1. Typically, the camera needs to connect to the NTP server to sync the date and time, so when it loses internet connection, it shows the wrong date and time.
In your usage scenario, you may allow the camera to use the NTP protocol to try to obtain the correct date and time.

2. If you want to access the camera via a VPN connection on your phone when it's outdoors, how about enabling the VPN on your phone directly and then trying to access the camera, will it stream the camera successfully?

Best Regards

No, without the workaround in Tapo App Android as was described.

VPN is activated on the phone right now, and VPN works without issues. VPN server on my lan. VPN address after connection is not lan address but masqueraded, postrouting. Access to anything on my lan as designed, but the app cannot reach the cameras.

Seems now, trough VPN, the devices are all offline (only trough VPN). Well no more access.

Anyway I have a backup plan for now, trough zm & zmNinja is working. I have to investigate what changed or required to be fixed later.

Hi,
If you are willing to do further troubleshooting, please feel free to let me know, and I'll then send the instructions to you to collect the app log for further analysis.
Best Regards
